We've seen some of Hollywood's hottest stars without their makeup, from Katy Perry to Sofia Vergara, and for the most part, we've been pleasantly surprised.

This week we get to add one of the biggest names on the planet to that list, with a fascinating Harper's Bazaar photo shoot of the superstar in her uncommonly rare natural state.

Without further ado, Lady Gaga sans makeup.

It actually doesn't make as big of a difference as we expected.

Granted, this is still a professional photo shoot, with professional lighting and, let's face it, probably a little bit of airbrush on top. Not to mention a fantastically full head of flowing hair that would put Cher to shame. But her complexion is imperfect and her lips look a little bit chapped.

Gaga said of the shoot, "I don't really view it as 'natural.' I think that artifice is the new reality. It's more about just being honest and sincere to the core of what you do. Whether I'm wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I'm always the same person inside."

A nice sentiment, to be sure, but we somehow doubt that Ms. Germanotta will be dropping any part of the artifice for longer than a shoot.

It was a hard choice but I took the buck toothed 1970ish anorexic-like stoned on weed blond look VS.the frizzled I just took a pound of coke two dollar hooker with gono blond look.

She looks better; she's no stunner but it's so refreshing to see her wearing such a small amount of makeup that I can feel my own skin taking a breath of a relief in empathy. It's a shame you can see the damage shes wrought upon her poor hair! I'd much rather see her natural look than this pore-clogging extreme:

I can't believe I'm answering a Lady Gaga question. I think she certainly looks better in the Harper's Bazaar photos than she does in the photo you used for the question.

That one kind of makes her look like a deactivated replicant from Blade Runner, sitting in storage.

Either that or somebody snapped a photo of one of the animatronic puppets experiencing a short circuit in Disneyland's new "It's a Gaga World (after all)" attraction. :-)

I am going to say better. Although, she is not without make-up. She is wearing "natural" make-up. Her brow is powdered as are her lashes, and the foundation and powder is obvious. She is a beautiful woman willing to take chances where so many women are not. She is willing to look odd or weird to make a statement. What kind of statement I haven't figured out. I admire her. She is not a role model just a strong woman willing to take a chance. Bravo!

i think shes setting a good example for girls by doing this. you dont have to be pretty to be beautiful. beauty comes from the inside.
