There has been new damaging evidence brought to light in the past few days that Joe Paterno covered up what he knew about child molester Jerry Sandusky in order not to tarnish the reputation of Penn State University and its sacred football program. It seems that Joe Paterno has tarnished his entire legacy, the football program and the university itself by not doing the right thing and turning Jerry in to authorities.
Bobby Bowden, the longtime Florida State football coach, and close friend of Joe Paterno says that the statue of Paterno on the Penn State campus should be removed. Do you agree with him?

Yes, take it down!+14All the records in the world won't give those boys their innocence back. We should not idolize people who don't protect children from preditors. When an athlete is found to be doping, they strip them of all their medals. This is no different.

If I live to be a thousand years old I will not get that logic.
And the wiener comment tells me you didn't graduated high school!!
Too bad the Penn State situation was not like that regarding Joe Paterno because, if it was, then I would not be standing up for the man.
I graduated from high school and did some college too. So blow me if you don't like how I talk.
A rave to you my dear friend!
Remove it to a different location. Honor the accomplishment of JoePa in building the program and the area. BUT, relocate the physical reminder to a less obvious place.
It is somewhat disrespectful to the victims and their families who attend events to see the statue and have to KNOW that he could have stopped all of the abuse 14 years earlier. BUT, we also should not extinguish all the good JoePa did.
So relocate the statue is a better option.
I do not think he could have stopped any of this, but the fact that they ask him and he requested it be hush, hush is his biggest crime of all. He did the absolute right thing with every athlete he coached, just not all the right things with all aspect of life....incredible.

and he went with the child rapist ..
wow, what a time to screw up ....
He did not do the right thing here, and if he did, he would have been seen in even higher regard than he already was before this all came out.
the press loved paterno, the students loved paterno, Penn State loved paterno, the football players loved paterno , the community loved paterno , even Pitt supporters that hate Penn State had respect for paterno..
the ONE time , when he was needed to make the decission that had to be made , he whimped out, he turned his back, he forgo his responsibility to the University , to those young boys, to every one,,
he allowed , with the knowledge of past , present and possible future , young boys to be raped .
there are very few times to very few people that we are called upon to do some thing that may harm our selves, our loved ones or in this case the University , and paterno loved the University ..
paterno screwed up, and for that action / inaction , he will be known as ...
that is the paterno legacy ... and it saddens me to see it unfold ,,,,
to where , the shower where the kids were raped ?
Kennedy was allowed to serve as the "honorable" senator for decades AFTER he murdered Mary Jo. So, this nation RARELY takes the lifetime of accomplishment away from a man for exceedingly poor judgement on a subject he probably did NOT have a concept of. MOST men and women cannot even IMAGINE those types of crimes, and given paternos age when he was told about it, PROBABLY his brain could not fully accept the magnitude of the information, or the acts themselves.
So, I would say move it to a more private location on campus where students can visit, and his accomplishments CAN be honored, but REmove it from the place of honor.
These are just MY thoughts on it.
paterno was a much younger man when this all went down, when this shower rape happened,, paterno knew about this child rapist for 15 years,, paterno was in his 60's when it first came out that his defense cordinator was a homo child rapist...
right or wrong, it matters to me, I have no mercy for paterno, he should be buried face down , to hide his shame...
And he was OLD, OLD then. You are welcome to hate him til you die. I just chose not, since he did so much good, and he did not personally molest a child.
I am a rape survivor, and find that I tend towards more lenience to those who did not DIRECTLY commit an act, largely because that type of thing is still so shocking.
paterno was all everything here in W. Pa. , paterno / penn state was what was right in the world,, or so I thought ,,
no, I do not hate paterno, I have disgust for his actions hiding the child rapes , but , no hate from me .. pity to paterno, disappointment , no hate..
and paterno's age ( aprox late 60's when he found out ) has little / nothing to do with any thing..
I neither glorify or hate him, he is just a man, a man that failed his fellow man..
Providence ?
Rheoboth Beach ?
