There has been new damaging evidence brought to light in the past few days that Joe Paterno covered up what he knew about child molester Jerry Sandusky in order not to tarnish the reputation of Penn State University and its sacred football program. It seems that Joe Paterno has tarnished his entire legacy, the football program and the university itself by not doing the right thing and turning Jerry in to authorities.
Bobby Bowden, the longtime Florida State football coach, and close friend of Joe Paterno says that the statue of Paterno on the Penn State campus should be removed. Do you agree with him?

Yes, take it down!+14All the records in the world won't give those boys their innocence back. We should not idolize people who don't protect children from preditors. When an athlete is found to be doping, they strip them of all their medals. This is no different.

are you sure that is what you ask for ???
Hell, maybe we should tear down the school as well....that would be just as ignorant.
paterno knew and hid the facts
paterno , for 15 years, permitted, allowed , encouraged , this sodomy in the football locker room shower.
paterno tried to negiotate a retirement when the grand jury had sandusky in their sights.
paterno forced others into silence on the rape of children..
ok, now defend this dirty deed thing , explain this justice of yours ......
Sad state of affairs if they still honor this guy after what he did or "didn't do".
There is no reason to have it up there anymore. His family deserves no more perks from the university and they should be stripped of their existing perks. I hope it's hot where JoePa is.
odd that you would use those terms / that wording,, did you do it on purpose ?
in paterno's case , it was a matter of suppresion of evidence ,
seems as though paterno took personal action to hide the actions of the child rapist .
sad , paterno really messed up , and that will go down as his legacy .. sad indeed.
#1, Wait until ALL the facts have come through and seen the light of day: The "facts" so far are one-sided: DON'T CONVICT HIM IN THE PRESS. Take it ALL to court.
#2, "Damaging evidence" by the prosecution isn't always "damaging evidence" to the defense: When "facts" are released by the State they are only released to prove THEIR point, and Joe is no longer here to give his side. His son, family, and friends dispute much of the prosecution's "facts."
#3, Stop confusing Joe Paterno and Jerry Sandusky. We've seen PLENTY of evidence against Sandusky and he got what was coming to him. He will never enjoy a day again in his life outside of prison walls. I bet he'll be dead within 5 years. BUT JOE PATERNO IS NOT JERRY SANDUSKY.
#4, Joe did not go far enough to get rid of Sandusky: I have no problem saying that Joe let those young men (victims) down. How deep his culpability goes has yet to be proven. He DID take the matter to his "bosses" and email chatter taken out of context can seem to mean one thing when in context it means another.
And #5, IF and WHEN Joe Paterno's fault is determined to warrant it, the statue then MUST COME DOWN. But let the facts play out as they will. Don't tear anything down within the heat of the moment.
As stated in this thread,it is up to the people in the university to decide what to do with the statue.
Paterno's failuere to take action and indeed coverup the crimes, left him just as guilty as Sandusky.
Paterno's inaction aided and abetted a serial pedophile, inexcusable.
I never said Paterno didn't hide it into the dust. I'm looking at it from both sides of the issue. That man was the coach at that university for 45 years. If you went to Penn State and knew he won several championships for your alma mater, you might have a different opinion.
Stop trying to put words in my mouth, Okie. Just because someone doesn't agree with you on everything doesn't make your opinion superior. Issues like these aren't always black and white.
