Does Animation Need Its Own Award Ceremony?

You've probably hear of the Oscars, the Grammys, the Emmys, and the Tonys. There are also the relatively new Webbys and the humiliating Razzies, and probably a few more out there that we missed. But the Annie Awards don't seem to get much attention these days. And it's not for lack of commitment -- they've been going on every year for nearly four decades.

The Annie Awards are dedicated to animated productions. Its 28 award categories include Best Animated Feature, Outstanding Individual Achievements, and Commercials. Comedian Patton Oswalt will host this year's annual ceremony on Saturday, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, "Kung Fu Panda 2" is the top dog going into it with 12 nominations. "Puss in Boots" and "Rango" also have a lot going for them. But we've got to wonder: does animation even need its very own award ceremony?

Definitely! It's a genre all of it's own, and vastly growing, with SO much hard work put into it that simply DESERVES much more recognition!!

Don't believe me? Look into animation - behind the scenes, what it takes to make a genuinely GOOD animation, and look just how much effort and of course TIME was put into it! It's not just a swing of a pencil and a few buttons pushed, it is ART.

A dynamic art at that that only gets better with time. A simple nomination or two at a ceremony, even a category at a ceremony, that is mixed with live action is simply NOT ENOUGH.

There are so many things that go into the animated movies. These geniuses need to be recognized for the great work they do.

It's hard work and different from live action movies and stage productions. Commercials also deserve their own award show. There are too many award shows but most of those are in certain areas and cover too much of the same territory as other award shows.

I just feel that ceremonies only recognizes the triple A movies. There is a lot of animated movies that nobody knows anything about.

I'm putting no, because we already have one. But yes, the work that goes into creating an animated film is beyond belief.

Of course Animation deserves its own award show; what it really deserves is to be as praised and recognized as any other type/genre of movie.
Animation is another dimension; a look into something invisible and impossible. Earthly limitations don't burden paper! The best stories, the greatest imaginations, and the most beautiful or unique places you could never go to and never see again come from animation. It's art in it's purest form, (when done correctly) and if many gave it a chance, they could see that too.
It's not just for kids, and it isn't silly or degrading to like. Abiding to that trope is more childish, and stubborn than anything. I have a special place in my heart for animation and I think that people who turn their nose up at it do not realize how much blood, sweat, and tears goes into creating an animated movie.

Yes because animation is art and these hard working animators and voice over people work their asses off all day or for seven months to make a seven minute cartoon.
