Does Angelina Jolie's Daughter Want To Be A Boy?

Angelina Jolie has three sons and three daughters ... but one of those daughters, 4-year-old Shiloh, wants to be a boy.

"She likes to dress like a boy," Jolie said. "She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys' everything. She thinks she's one of the brothers."

The media raised questions when Shiloh was photographed sporting a boyish bowl cut and masculine clothes. One blog even compared her look to that of "Hangover" actor Zach Galifianakis.

One fashion stylist accused Shiloh of "pushing the boundaries of a tomboy look and crossing over into cross-dresser territory," but advocacy groups are dismissing such statements as irresponsible and outdated.

Senior editor of "Today's Parent Magazine," Sandra Martin, defended Shiloh's look, saying, "It's totally normal for young kids to experiment dressing like the other gender. In Shiloh's case, it could be because she has older brothers, or she looks up to her dad and wants to look like him."

Do You Think It's OK For Shiloh Jolie-Pitt To Be Dressed Like a Boy?

This is FU@%ing ridiculous!! "...we had to cut her hair" and "She likes to dress like a boy". Kids wear what you tell them to wear (this includes hair style and clothes). I buy my 3yr old daughter girls clothes.. there are no options!! When she gets older and becomes of age to make her own decisions, she can look anyway she likes (and I will love she just the same), but until then....

    She's...uh..4 years old?
I mean, when I was younger, I'd dress like a boy, hiding my hair under some sort of hat.
It's not really a big deal.
I'm sure she'll grow out of it, and if not...then fantastic for her...but it's still none of our business

She's young, it's fine. She's probably just going through a phase. Later on in life when she's a teenager she'll probably look back and say, wow, I still wish I were a boy because being a girl sucks! lol

But yeah, I think it's okay, she's probably influenced by all her brothers.

She'll probably grow out of it. We all do when we were kids. I remember that I used to run around a lot outside and climb trees and make mud pies. I was a bit of a little tomboy and a little princess too. Now, I can't climb up a tree like I used to and I don't play in mud X).

Though...I hope that no one mistakes her a boy in public...

I wouldn't be surprised if it happened because in this picture she does look very much like a boy in those clothes and hair cut. Little kids can look very similar in looks since they much less mature haha.

She's a little kid! I HATE that people would try to push their kids into perfect little boxes. So what if she likes boys clothes? So what what if a little boy wants to play with dolls or play dress up with his sister? It's normal.

Why not? Maybe she believes that she would be happier being the opposite gender, let her try it and see what she does.
You never know she may out grow it cause it could just be a phase.

I didnt really know what to answer. Its not normal that a four year old wants to change gender but I didnt wanna say it was wierd in case it offends anyone who is transgender. I have nothing againsst people chaning gender but how can you know you want something as drastic as changing gender at such a young age. Maybe she should wait til shes 18 and then see if she still feels the same way.

ROFL it IS normal for little kids to want to be something they aren't. My now "girly girl" wanted to be a boy for about 6 months when she was younger based SOLEY on the fact that she thought BOYS got to do anything they wanted and girls couldn't. She got the idea because she has brothers 10 and 13 years older than her that were allowed to do things she couldn't do. At 8 she now wants to be Princess Ariel when she grows up...

I was like that when I was little. My parents tried to dress me like a girl, but I would refuse to. I was pretty much like my dad's little boy except I was a girl. She just likes to be like that it's her choice

I am all for children not sticking to strictly gender related toys, clothes, etc, but the hair? Come on, that is pushed by the parents. If she wants to wear a blazer why not a pink or purple one? Kids get confused, and there IS a difference between boys and girls. It is irresponsible not to make your child aware of those differences. If the child is made aware and still chooses (on their own) to dress differently then you let them with compromise.

but she is only four and doesnt understand those differences like adults do. its just like playing dress up. its not like shes asking for a sex-change. i used to dress like a boy when i was older than her. now im a wife and mother. its all just a phase.

You make a good point, I use to do what Shiloh did cause I grew up with all boys and wanted to fit in with them. I chose to have short hair and boy clothes and now I'm a girl but in a different way cause it's not sexy, it's punk and strictly me. I don't like to judge, but she is four as people have pointed out and she doesnt need the media. As you have stated it's just a phase

Not really, I mean, I had short hair up until I was eight, and this may come as a shock, but it IS difficult not to notice that you are a girl. BELIEVE ME. I'm joining the rugby team next year, I love hard rock or even screamo, barely even wear make up and I'm not considered a tomboy.

Women can have short hair, but they gave their daughter a boy's cut. This is the daughter of a woman who does very strange things for attention, I worry that she is using her children for some more.

My 6 yr old girl wanted a buzz cut like her brothers because it's so hot in the summer... by your response above the fact that I let her do it would then be because I 'pushed' it on her? It is after all ONLY hair and as thick as it is she looks cuter with the 1inch hair cut than she did with the stringy sweaty hair sticking to her face and neck.

Did you tell her it was a boy's haircut? Did you alert her that now she has to put sunscreen on her head? Some parents feed into their kids "ideas" and it causes them more harm, because they think it is "cute" or "funny"
  • CindyLee Steve☮E... 2010/06/29 22:29:17 (edited)
    CindyLee
Yes I told her it was a boys hair cut, she then asked me if that made Tinkerbell and her friends boys since their hair was that short. Her hair is to thick to put sunscreen on to protect her scalp, though yes when going outside they wear sunscreen on exposed areas of her skin.

In less than her month her hair will look like this = hair sunscreen protect scalp wear sunscreen exposed areas skin hair
