Like "nerd" and "geek," "gamer" has gone from being a somewhat derogatory term to one of endearment and pride. To underline that transition, comedian and actress Aisha Tyler stepped up to the plate as the host of Ubisoft's press conference at E3 last weekend. Things seemed to be going well at the conference, but online, the "Archer" star was bitten with a wave of resistance. Gamers were accusing her of being unqualified -- not a real gamer, just a sexy face.
Tyler shot back. On Tuesday, she wrote on Facebook, "I've played since I was a little kid. Since I begged my dad to buy me a Nintendo LCD Donkey Kong, Jr. Since I blew through three weeks' allowance playing Defender at the laundromat. Since you were a twinge in the left side of your daddy's underoos ... I'll still be playing when your mom's kicked you out of her basement and you have to sell your old-ass console and get a real job." There's much, much more where that came from. Do you buy it? Is Aisha Tyler really a gamer?

They have messy hair, wear oblong clothes and have dark circles under their eyes from too much obsessive gaming. They are highly competitive.
They are not girls trying gaming just for their boyfriends and give up or don't get sad over a death.
I started playing video games at the age of 4, and even with my busy schedule these days still make time to play video games whenever I have the chance. I own 9 video game consoles (All the new ones, and many old timers) and 6 hand held consoles and over 300 games.
I also have a normal life, take care of my body and looks and I'm female. I consider myself a gamer.
As my boyfriend puts it I "out nerd most guys." Play console games religiously (yes, even when he isnt around), take my PSP on business trips, play D&D every saturday night, and even have quite a large collection of Warhammer models ... if I'm not a real gamer girl I don't know what is.
Oh and I'm far from a smelly, messy girl ...
I've seen enough pseudo-gamer sluts wearing big glasses with these shirts trying to be cute and passing the "nerd" look. Idiots -.-
If you love video games, and you consider them a big part of your life, then you are a gamer. If you refuse to buy MW3 because you played black-ops and lost love for the series, then you are probably a gamer. If you look up the glitches in a Bethesda game, before you buy it because you KNOW that there will be some, then you must be a gamer.
It doesn't matter if you're a pretty face, or you bathe in proactive, you CAN be a gamer. Why can't we just all be gamers together?
