Like "nerd" and "geek," "gamer" has gone from being a somewhat derogatory term to one of endearment and pride. To underline that transition, comedian and actress Aisha Tyler stepped up to the plate as the host of Ubisoft's press conference at E3 last weekend. Things seemed to be going well at the conference, but online, the "Archer" star was bitten with a wave of resistance. Gamers were accusing her of being unqualified -- not a real gamer, just a sexy face.

Tyler shot back. On Tuesday, she wrote on Facebook, "I've played since I was a little kid. Since I begged my dad to buy me a Nintendo LCD Donkey Kong, Jr. Since I blew through three weeks' allowance playing Defender at the laundromat. Since you were a twinge in the left side of your daddy's underoos ... I'll still be playing when your mom's kicked you out of her basement and you have to sell your old-ass console and get a real job." There's much, much more where that came from. Do you buy it? Is Aisha Tyler really a gamer?

As another female gamer, I know where she's coming from. Not to stereotype, but when confronted with a female gamer, most male gamers have one of two reactions: 1) complete and utter disbelief to the point where they put you down, or 2) Drool. "Do you have a boyfriend? I'll help you level your character!" It's infuriating, especially since we're not all THAT rare anymore. She handled it really well!

it's even worse when they start talking nasty and derogatory... worse than just putting you down..sometimes they get downright crude!

Agreed entirely. If someone is that way all the time, I don't care. Some people are born jerks. But when they get really exceptionally crude and nasty and I feel it's directed at or because of me, all I can think of is: "I really wish I was in PvP/fighting against you mode."

Gaming is a lifestyle. Unless someone is wearing gaming apparel it is difficult to tell. If someone says they are, then you should take them at their word.

I don't really know who she is, but she knows what E3 is a lot of girls who say they are gamers don't. Just because you play COD on xBox doesn't make you a gamer.

There's no such thing as "seeming" like a gamer, or looking like one. You either enjoy video games and dedicate a good amount of your freetime towards them or you don't. There isn't any "gamer look".

Even though she doesn't look like a gamer, I heard from somewhere she was a gamer. Sure, looks can be deceiving. But that's the thing; image means nothing.

Look at Olivia Munn. She's a big gamer. But if she wasn't a regular at Comic Con, no one would have known.
