This is a serious media study consensus, so I need every sodahead to try and get involved so I can gather some info on what audiences think. Please comment as well. I was thinking after seeing too many 3D CGI animated films that maybe it's time 2D started making a comeback. Now, I know what you're thinking, "they've already done this with the princess and the frog", but to be honest that's the only one I can think of as being a modern 2D film in Western society. I think 2D needs better treatment than to be either a novelty, or just be used for television films only. 2D animation has been used for a very long time, then was simply... abandoned. Now, it is often used for second rate films in cinema, and while I love 3D CGI, I just feel it is overused.Top cat came out recently, but the 2D animation I feel there was 'flash animation' quality, and if films such as the simpsons movie were to be made using 3D CGI, I think audiences would probably burn down their local cinemas, (or maybe not, depending on what you feel.) I think 2D has so much more potential, just look at 'the secret world or Arrietty', I feel it is one of the greatest animated films of 2011, and yet there are so many CGI films to overshadow it. As an animation fanatic, this is what I feel, anyway. What's your opinion?
I just really don't believe it is going anywhere. I guess I'll admit you don't see huge budgets for it anymore. But I think its a long way from being a "past time".
