Do Zombies Make Everything Better?

Kotaku just previewed concept art for an upcoming zombie video game, "Project Zomboid," and it got us thinking. More than a year ago, western shooter "Red Dead Redemption" released "Undead Nightmare," which was essentially an expansion of the exact same game, with the exact same map... But instead of desperados, you fought zombies. And you know what? It was pretty frickin' awesome.

If things go according to plan, "Project Zomboid" will be a zombie game manifesto. The zombie gaming aethetic has been evolving since "House of the Dead" and "Resident Evil," and since "Left 4 Dead" came out in 2008 game producers have been trying to get the formula just right. "Project Zomboid" differentiates between fast zombies and slow zombies, presumes you will eventually succumb to the infection, and even incorporates issues like depression and alcoholism. Zombie games are practically an artform unto themselves.

    As much fun as it is to kill the mindless dead, it's gotten stale. It's become the only politically correct thing to kill at this point; every other "villain" has either been run into the ground, or is controversial (Nazi's, Imperial Japanese, etc.).

    And really, it seems like games are trying to focus less on killing people in general. So that just leaves mindless, shambling, non-people: Zombies. It's been pushed to it's limit really, if "Dead Island" is any indicator.

    theyre getting old like vampires. I wouldnt mind a zombie game that more based around survival than zombies. kinda like a I am Legend spin off game. Not where you go slaying hundreds of zombies but where you need water/food/shelter and there happens to be zombies+ multiplayer to make little societies and you defend your base at night, gather and fight other groups at day.

    I love zombies. Books, movies, games, cute little zombie earrings.. pillsbury doughboy zombie tshirts... ahem.... However, it gets a little annoying when something saturates all types of media, though.

    For instance, games that have nothing to do with zombies that have a zombie level. I can see how some people would like it though. I for one loved the cow level in Diablo 2. So there you are.

    I picked the third option 'cause it was funny. ;). But seriously, when I was watching my older brother play "Undead Nightmare," I thought it looked pretty cool. I could never play a zombie game, though. If I try I get freaked out, for some reason, panic, then get killed! I don't know why but zombies seem to have that affect on me.

    and sega has joined the zombie craze with a yakuza spin off that doesn't deal with martial arts like the other yakuza games but in fore power though i guess i would be more inclined to play that than most other zombie games.

    god of course not but thats why zombies are fun, the very fact that they don't exist and them causing the end of the world it's sort of like being a lil kid wanting to play with a unicorn, of course it doesn't exist but it's fun to pretend

    All I know it is fun shooting zombies in the gaming world..I have Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 and I also have Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare..those are my top favorite zombie games so far..Call of Duty Zombies would be cool if you didnt have to do things between each wave...but I'm a sucker for zombies, hell yeah they make things better

    What is with the new trend. I swear, last year it was everything vampires, now its everything zombies. I was at Kings Island Halloween Haunt this year and everything was zombie this, zombie that. I just not get it. I am vampire fan, so that must be it but what is with the new trend.
