Do You Watch Reruns?

Watching reruns is fun, but can also feel like a waste of time to some. As it turns out though, that is not the case, according to a study by psychologist Jaye Derrick of the University of Buffalo's Research Institute on Addictions. Derrick states that watching reruns can help us all because it replenishes our depleted self-control and ability to resist temptation.

Apparently, when a person is watching a rerun of one of their favorite shows like Seinfeld or Boy Meets World, it can give him or her positivity from the familiar fictional world they know. After all, people don't just want reruns because they are the only thing on TV. They tune in because they are fun and enjoyable to watch.

Reruns also help relieve stress, especially comedies that can potentially clear the clouded mind. Of course, if your temptation is sour cream and onion flavored chips when watching TV, it may be a little hard to suppress that temptation when your favorite show's reruns are on.

I usually only watch shows I couldn't see during their original run. Also, every now and then, there are some shows that were good enough to see again.

I absolutely agree that watching reruns of my favorite old shows helps my stress level. Depending on the show, it can take me back to a simpler time in my life when there wasn't so many responsibilities. I love watching reruns.

Favorite movies, anything with Andy Griffith or Tom Selleck as Jessie Stone. Face it, today's choices are reality tv, prime time talent shows, news stories (20/20) and every now and then a pretty good show. In between all the crap, re-runs fill the void with good tv.

A lot of shows I watch are as reruns despite the fact I've never seen the episodes before (I'm a younger trekkie, here, so that's really not a surprise) and I'll watch episodes of series I like multiple times if I enjoyed the episode enough.

Rowan Atkinson? Oh my god, child! get some Mr Bean, or Blackadder right away!!!

    Go to YouTube, right now!!!

He is a brilliant British comedian! His shows used to run here in the US, a lot, now usually just around he Holidays, PBS will play his shows, his specials, things like that, he is a scream!
Blackadder is more situation and jokes, funny, Mr Bean is mainly slapstick. Laurel and Hardy and Rowan Atkinson are almost the only slapstick I ever could stand. he is really good!

Just go to You Tube and tell me what you think.

It has been a long time since Blackadder, etc, was shown on TV, here in NY, anyway.

BTW, I agree, the friends one was very funny.

There are many Seinfeld episodes that the members of my family know almost by rote. Big Bang Theory has become another of our favorites in recent years.
