Do You Watch Reruns?

Watching reruns is fun, but can also feel like a waste of time to some. As it turns out though, that is not the case, according to a study by psychologist Jaye Derrick of the University of Buffalo's Research Institute on Addictions. Derrick states that watching reruns can help us all because it replenishes our depleted self-control and ability to resist temptation.

Apparently, when a person is watching a rerun of one of their favorite shows like Seinfeld or Boy Meets World, it can give him or her positivity from the familiar fictional world they know. After all, people don't just want reruns because they are the only thing on TV. They tune in because they are fun and enjoyable to watch.

Reruns also help relieve stress, especially comedies that can potentially clear the clouded mind. Of course, if your temptation is sour cream and onion flavored chips when watching TV, it may be a little hard to suppress that temptation when your favorite show's reruns are on.

Actually, everybody does. Some don't realize it's a rerun because they've never seen it before.

WHY YES I DO SODAHEAD TV, I watch EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. We in this family could watch hours or even a marathon and laugh at those episodes even though we have seen them at least 5 to 6 times a piece, maybe even more. The KING OF QUEENS also..but not as good as EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND , but entertaining...

I find EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND to be WHOLESOME and SOMETHING EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY CAN WATCH from 4 to 54....and over...
ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW is another TIMELESS. FUNNY EVERY-TIME we see one that we have seen 20 times before. I LOVE LUCY and THE LUCILLE BALL SHOW (THE LUCY SHOW) the slap stick was PERFECT and THREE STOOGES with CURLY was IMPECCABLE SLAP STICK and the DEAN MARTIN and JERRY LEWIS MOVIES, slap stick and STORIES so CLEAN and FUN..ABBOTT and COSTELLO MOVIES, FRANCIS THE TALKING MULE, MA and PA KETTLE, DAGWOOD and BLONDE MOVIES....and on and on..

MOST I HAVE SEEN AS KIDS FROM THE 1957 till now so many times I know some lines and scenes by HEART..but even then STILL TIMELESS and FUNNY....

... but not shows that are too "soapy". That is, they depend on what happened in a previous episode and build on that for the one you are watching. Like Grey's Anatomy and House.

But Friends? Heck, it's been off the air for eight years now, and I still watch it!

And don't get me started on the best TV show of all time - Star Trek. That show shines in re-runs ....

I like the black and white ones with Barney in them. The show lost something when it went color and Barney went off to Mt Pilot.

Shows today are one-hitter-quitters... Very few have that "thing" that makes you want to watch 'em again and again... The creative flair has diminished in the sitcom industry... The acting industry has gotten lazy by doing "reality TV"... They are being paid too much money for crap... Most of 'em need to get a pay cut for poor performance... Sports stars too... But that's a different ball game...

I love old shows the new stuff that comes out nowadays is total garbage and I'd rather watch a full season of MASH than 20 minutes of some stupid reality show like the Kardashians or Jersey Shore and I never even liked MASH.

Television is a waste of time! Life is much better then old reruns "enhanced" with some bogus HD claim! {MASH & Married with Children might be the exceptions} ...but then, i never saw them in the 1st place so if i did see them, their not reruns for me. =)
Life without tv is ...Life. Life with tv is observing someone else doing what some director told them is their job, If that is not bad enough, you are being forced to watch commercials for your pain and suffering! Isn't having to do your own job bad enough without having to watching someone else work?

I love the old TV ... no whale poachers, no junk collectors fighting over a 10 dollar chair and no one locked in a house for weeks lying and cheating for money. Would Jack Tripper ever become a crab fisherman? Would the Fonz put up with Rachel and Brandon? And could you ever picture Carol Burnett bidding on a storage locker? God Bless Morals ... and reruns!!!

I had to watch each and every episode of LOST from the beginning, not missing one, to try and figure out the numerous sub plots. It was interesting to say the least, and time consuming as well.

    Did you enjoy it ?!?

I hear that show was really good,

but also very challenging to watch and follow ~

I've thought about catching it from start to finish, but, idk...

    Sometimes I just wanna chill an'NOT think about what's goin'on ;p

I did. But the last season was definitely very confusing unless one paid attention. People that should've been dead weren't, and those that were had come back .......... the writers must've been doing some heavy bong lifting in those days.

    LOL !

I remember a few co-workers trying to 'hash' it out,

( no pun intended, lol, but it does seem to fit the 'bong' theory ! )

one of whom was my boss, and she was definately dazed, and confused ;p

Who knows, maybe I'll give it a whirl, someday, if I got braincells to spare, that is ;0 )

Thanks for your input ! And your friendship too, btw ! Peace to Ya, an'Party On !

I shouldn't be watching reruns of this show. I should be watching new episodes. Why did you have to be discontinued?!
