Do You Watch Reruns?

Watching reruns is fun, but can also feel like a waste of time to some. As it turns out though, that is not the case, according to a study by psychologist Jaye Derrick of the University of Buffalo's Research Institute on Addictions. Derrick states that watching reruns can help us all because it replenishes our depleted self-control and ability to resist temptation.

Apparently, when a person is watching a rerun of one of their favorite shows like Seinfeld or Boy Meets World, it can give him or her positivity from the familiar fictional world they know. After all, people don't just want reruns because they are the only thing on TV. They tune in because they are fun and enjoyable to watch.

Reruns also help relieve stress, especially comedies that can potentially clear the clouded mind. Of course, if your temptation is sour cream and onion flavored chips when watching TV, it may be a little hard to suppress that temptation when your favorite show's reruns are on.

as an only child of the 70's/80's - i grew up watching a lot of TV.
recently - my household has given up TV and frankly i don't miss it.
there are so many other things to do...
i'd rather listen to music and cook up a masterpiece meal, go for a drive, play a game w/ my children, snuggle w/ my honey, read a book (yeah, people still do that) go listen to a live band, organize the house, sleep... nearly anything than waste my time on TV.

Now i'm not against TV, i just don't have time for it in my life and we're saving nearly $1600/year cutting the cable cord!!!
a family vacation sounds better... 16 concert tix sounds better... going to movies more often sounds better... getting massages sounds better... having a maid sounds better... taking piano lessons sounds better... improving my library sounds better... having a better car stereo sounds better!!!

Yet yer here! [Sometimes contrariness is merely an indication of a need fer attention.]
If we could go somewhere fer $16hunerd, it'd be to da store fer even a larger screen!
We'd hate to think wot $130 per month would buy in housekeeping, massages or home library but certainly know movie ticket prices with stale popcorn & expensive drinks with no beer are no substitute for Ann Sanders, Hawaii Five-0, CSI, CSI: New York, NYPD Blue & endless movies, comedies & dramas. Oh well... we LOVE television

I only watch reruns a particular episode is good or there is nothing worth watching on TV. Those "researches" are meaningless to me.

Of course! It is impossible to watch television without being subjected to reruns! The best are on 'subscription' television stations such as 'NYPD Blue', 'Law & Order', 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent', 'Outer Limits', 'Eureka', 'Warehouse 13', 'Smallville', 'Lois & Clark', and comedies like 'Becker', Classic 'Saturday Nite Live', 'Mary Tyler Moore' & 'My Name is Earl'. If reruns didn't exist, we'd be stuck with 'Reality' amateur singers, dancers, toddlers, teen mothers and pitiful yak fests with gender challenged, obese, fugly & offensive 'hostesses'! Yuck! Beer and scotch time! best TV detective

I am not old enough to have seen a new episode but 'All in the Family' is one of my favorites. They don't make actors like Carroll O' Connor anymore.

Re-run movies Maybe one or two TV shows from the 60's. Not crazy about any new sitcoms. Sort of like singers today, not many can actually sing like in my grandparents day. I enjoy old movies and singers from yesteryear much more than what we have today.

Sure! It's great for catching up on a show or if you're feeling a little nostalgic. Although tv has gotten so much worse the last 10 years in general (and I mean typical tv not premium cable or amc, that's like trying to say movies are better based on the oscar winners or indie flicks.. not really representative of the general trend).

It's fun to get a little cultural snapshot from 20 - 30 years ago. (People wore THAT? Look at that awful hair! And to think that person was my teen-age dream -- what was I thinking?) In some cases, though, the writing, and humor, and that acting were far superior to that we have today. And I'd rather watch Gunsmoke continuously than all the mindless, juvenile, smutty reality shows on now.

I never cared much for the normal ABC; NBC and CBS channels. I imagine I could count the number of TV shows I have tuned in to watch in my LIFETIME on my fingers only. Then I do not watch re-runs of them because .. . #1 Most of the ones I did watch were long ago and it seems if I could find them somewhere now they have Dubbed in laugh tracks that were not originally there. I HATE Laugh Tracks!

    ...... somewhere in my Pile of Treasures I have a tee-shirt with their ' Hi, I'm Larry ... '.

Use to have Tours of the place, I guess it's still there .... Bags or Sister Jean would probably know if it's still open as they're fairly local to the town.
