Attention American Idol fans: A new judge may be on the way and she is as high profile as a celebrity gets. According to Deadline, legendary recording artist Mariah Carey is very close to a deal to become a judge on FOX's long-running, popular show American Idol. Carey's salary, should the two sides come to terms, is said to be worth more than $17 million.
That's a lot of zeroes in her paycheck and they will come with great expectations from the FOX side. Those expectations mainly include higher ratings than last season, as well as more social media buzz. FOX is currently in the midst of revamping the show, which saw sagging ratings last season and the lack of an Emmy nomination. Veteran American Idol judge Randy Jackson is expected to stay on the show, but the decision will most likely not be up to him, but FOX.
As for Jackson's colleagues Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who are incredibly accomplished artists in their own right, they will not be returning for the upcoming season. As high profile as Tyler and Lopez are, their chemistry didn't translate to the ratings success FOX was paying for. Can Carey change that or is American Idol simply losing steam to its competition like The Voice and The X-Factor?

Kara--added nothing to the show
Ellen--just there for kicks and giggles (and add a little humor maybe?)
J Lo--she is past her prime and bringing her back was a terrible decision
Steven Tyler--he's too awesome for the show and we all know it.
Adam Lambert--really.................
Mariah Carey--after her husband's comment about the offer, just no.
Let's face it, there is NOTHING Fox can come up with that can save this show
Idol found its superstars--Kelly, Carrie 'freaking' Underwood, and David. There's a lot of talent still left out there, I'm sure but it isn't going to be found through this show
A few weeks ago there was a similar question to this about a selection of judges who might be good to judge and I firmly believe that Adam Lambert is one of them. He has experienced what the contestants will be experiencing and will be able to give constructive advice to them. He is also able to sing and appreciate many genres of music which means he can truly help all contestants whatever their style of music is.
Also I believe he helped contestants with song choices while he himself was competing in the competition.
OK, I have strayed from the original question, Mariah Carey, right .. Personally I would have to say no for all the reasons above.
