Do You Want to Own District 12 From 'Hunger Games'?

Yes, you read that correctly. District 12 from "The Hunger Games" is for sale -- or at least, the 72-acres in North Carolina where it was filmed. The land was acquired by "Hollywood Treasure," a SyFy reality show hosted by pop culture appraiser Joe Maddalena. He plans to put the land up for auction, and expects the property to go for more than $1.2 million.

But it certainly doesn't look like a million bucks. The site is actually an abandoned 1920s mill town called Henry River Mill Village. Of course, the real value now lies in its recent history. It served as the backdrop for District 12 in "The Hunger Games," where main character Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, lived. Maddalena will explain the auction on the show's June 5 episode, and bidding will run through July 31. Do you wish you could throw down for District 12 from "The Hunger Games"?

I haven't seen the movie, but it would be awesome to buy an entire village with old and abondoned houses and then rebuild it entirely.

You buy it for a million today, you sell it for five million tomorrow, it's called investing.

Man, I can't think of a joke, there's no District 14 in Hunger Games, and I can't think of an interesting District 14 elsewhere.

Go with district 2, they have a nearly impregnable fortress.

If I had that kind of money to spare, then yes.

I figure that if I was rich, I could renovate the insides of the homes, slap signs in the front yards saying things like "The Hob" and "Hawthorne Residence", and turn it into a vacation sight where die-hard HG fans could stay in their favorite characters' houses. I'd make a fortune.

72 acres in North Carolina...not bad, depending on zoning, proximity to other valuable areas, etc. What does 72 acres in NC normally go for?

There's an old mining town in Colorado that someone bought up, and turned into a really nice hotel. Pricey for sure, nice place.

If it looks dismal, I'd say they did a perfect job of creating an accurate District 12.

I think it would be interesting to either make this into a camping/hunting area, or even look at developing the area in to large acreages with the mill house acting as a vintage guest house.

These kinds of properties usually have allot of potential if you want to work at it.
