Three-time Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton made headlines Thursday after admitting that she worked as a high-priced escort for the last year, charging $600 an hour to spend time with clients.

Hamilton has used her Twitter account to apologize to her fans and explain herself. In a series of tweets, Hamilton said the following: "I realize I have made highly irrational choices and I take full responsibility for them. I am not a victim here and knew what I was doing. I was drawn to escorting in large part because it provided many coping mechanisms for me when I was going through a very challenging time with my marriage and my life. It provided an escape from a life that I was struggling in. It was a double life. I do not expect people to understand, but the reasons for doing this made sense to me at the time and were very much related to depression."

I dont understand why she is even talking about it. Why does she have to apologize to anyone? It is her life. I dont care what she does.

No, I dont understand, but I dont understand alot of what people say and do. I find it odd that so many feel a compunction to apologize at every turn. Maybe she should simply apologize to her husband and leave it at that?

She's nothing more than a cheap dirty prostitute. Women so often use these kind of excuses for doing such things when in fact they are doing it for self satifaction and selfish reasons. She was simply enjoying herself---using pathetic men and making alot of money as well. It was a money maker for her and she apparently thinks like alot of women do; that they can be whores for a while and then appoligize for it and go on with a normal respectable life. She has labeled herself a whore and she will always be one.

A more honest explanation would be something like "Here, let me apologize for something I did with MY life, because YOU all feel the need to condemn me."

Why is this an issue? Really, WHY? Someone works as an escort, that's their business. Someone's a stripper, let them be. If it bothers you THAT much, then AVOID them. But Christ, forcing an apology out of someone that just made their own life's decisions?

I don't think prostitution is a good thing. I do, however, understand why women become call girls. Most obviously, it's a lot of money. Second of all, women often start to feel used by men and may want to turn the tables and use them. Unlike with other kinds of prostitution when there's a pimp who's getting most of the money and it's the girls who are being used, the high-priced escort is in control of what happens and gets what she wants. I think it's the mindset of "Everyone is just focusing on my body anyway, why not take advantage of it?"

By "don't condone" I don't mean "think should be illegal." I think it should be legal. It's between the "buyer" and "seller," just like everything else. I just don't personally think it's a good thing. Perhaps I should rephrase that.

Ah... I agree totally. Tragic business, but the gov't shouldn't be sticking their noses into it.

I was watching a "COPS" episode last night, and the police told these two women
--obvious prostitutes-- that they didn't want to see them on the Las Vegas strip again or they'd be arrested. Like it's legal for some people to walk down the sidewalk, but not for others.

One would hope that the ACLU would file major lawsuits every single time the cops trashed the Constitution this way, but they're not interested in such unglamorous things.

I understand it completely. I see no need for her to apologize to anyone. I thought all Olympians were wealthy! The American Media places such a stigma on prostitution, the only way a woman can be drawn into it is through force. Such bull crap. I have known girls working the streets, totally by choice, then when they were arrested, & discovered they can play the abused woman card and stay out of jail, crying, Oh, my drug dealers forced me into it, or this boyfriend or that guy...
I am not saying there are no situations where the choice was made for them, there is, but many are drawn by the easy quick money. lets face it most women do not get a fair deal as a worker.

First of all, she was not in violation of any law. Secondly, her life is based entirely upon her decisions, and thirdly it happens to be no ones business but her own, and fourthly she does not owe anyone an explanation, and finally she should not have to apologize for anything she does that is NOT in violation of the law and is NOT anyone's business!
