Tupac Amaru Shakur was born on June 16th 1971 by Afeni Shakur in a New York hospital. A month before Tupac was born, Afeni had been released from prison for a Black Panther plot to bomb banks and department stores. Tupac's father was Billy Garland, who was a Black Panther party member.

The ones who "truly' understood his music understood his trials.

His music was about his life. Listen to the lyrics of his songs and it gives you a peak into who he is as a person.

His true fans loved him for his honesty. When there's honesty in music there's not Hypocrisies in life or who you are as a person and he wasn't perfect and he made that clear.

Mom and dad are the only true influence anyone should have, not musicians, actors, actresses or sports stars. Mom and dad need to teach their kids this! It's a parents job to raise your kid with enough sense to not follow anyone!

What I love about Tupac is that he's contradictory. He changed as a person, with every album, he never stayed the same, because as all humans, we change because of our experiences, whether we want to or not, whether it's for better or worst. He had a sensitive side, and a violent side that appeared more with each passing album. He was tired of the stress and pain, and was scared as well, so he began to lash out at everyone. He always talked about death, about seeing himself in a casket.

He was Human, he never pretended to be Invincible like most rappers nowadays. He showed vulnerability, which showed that he was REAL. That's why most consider him the Best ever.

He's a good example. We all tend to get mad and say or do things out of anger but, that does not mean you are bad for the crowd.
If he was a bad influence then why would he be able to touch so many people through his words, lyrics etc?

No. Not everyone, especially those who listen to his music and the messages he had, knew the story of his life. His life sounded quite sad in terms of the hardships he was dealt by fate and yet also the talents he was given to counter act the lack of effective parenting and good, reliable extended family and a supportive community.

I love his music and his poetry. He had talent. It is too bad that his background caught up with him and over powerd the gift and snuffed out the flame that was just starting to burn bright.

    Tupac was a social prophet.

'Please wake me when i'm free
    i cannot bear captivity
where my culture I'm told holds not significance
I'll wither and die in ignorance
But my inner eye can c a race
who reigned as kings in another place
the green of trees were rich and full
and every man spoke of beautiful
men and women together as equals
War was gone because all was peaceful
    But now like a nightmare I wake 2 c
That I live like a prisoner of poverty
Please wake me when I'm free
    I cannot bear captivity
4 I would rather be stricken blind
than 2 live without expression of mind'

No, the media only shows one side of an individual. Tupac was hungry for fame. When he was in jail he talked about changing his life. But being around individual who he knew was bad influence him. Inside Tupac was screaming for help but no one could save him.

jus wanted to add that i think its very odd how people can hate tupac when they dont even know him or even took the time to read about him or listen to his music... alright drugs and gang related violence, but what about respect for women and his mother, how about coming up from nothing and making himself the most well known man in hip hop.... sure he did bad things but every1 does... but im sure theres people who sit there listen to his music and it gives them hope... hes done bad things we all do bad things and we r not hated for it.... people should not idolize tupac but they sure shouldnt hate him he had heart and you can heart it in his lyrics

I would like to hear what the author of this poll has to say. It sounds like she has some issues with him after the mistakes he made in life.

But great poll you did here!
