Do you think the "R" rating should be done away with and substituted with "NC-17" which means no one who is 17 or under will be admitted?

    Age limits are lame.

It would force the industry to make even lamer movies so that they don't loose the revenue from the 17 and under demographic.

There is a big difference between violence (R) and pornography (NC-17).

There is some confusion about the NC-17 rating and what it exactly means.

I just want to emphasize that the NC-17 rating does not mean a movie is pornographic. Below is the actual explanation from the MPAA:

NC-17 does not mean "obscene" or "pornographic" in the common or legal meaning of those words, and should not be construed as a negative judgment in any sense. The rating simply signals that the content is appropriate only for an adult audience.

"I just want to emphasize that the NC-17 rating does not mean a movie is pornographic."
-If you want to get technical perhaps, but Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 is the only film to ever get rated NC-17 without having pornographic content (only as a marketing ploy actually; the movie is only as carried away as most PG-13 movies).

I think that teenagers can easily handle a violent movie, but hardcore pornography is too extreme. Everyone must draw a line somewhere.

I really think that people do not take movie ratings very serious anymore anyway because you can watch just about any rating on cable tv anytime. I don't like it and I think our children are affected by the sexual depictions on screen, the violence also, but to keep anyone under 17 years old would be tough because most the kids working in theaters are only about 17.

I think that parents should make that decision. If you don't want you kid seeing a "R" rated movie DON'T GO! It's also unnecessary censorship. Most "R" rated movie don't have anything that a younger teenager has not been exposed too already. Plus movie ratings are more like recommendation anyway.

I have been watching rated "R" movies since i was about 10, its not like i didn't understand them either. The difference between these would be an adult can get you into "R" but not "NC-17"? I think if a 16 year old is with their parents they should certainly be allowed to see the movie!

    That is a good suggestion.
