Do you think the MLS will ever compete to be the greatest soccer league in the world?

I'd like to think it could be, pulling players from such a large population. Also being home to capatalism, you'd think at some point that money would start to flow through it in some sort of comparrison to the EPL.
The downside's I see are the leagues team franchise model, which dilutes the fan bases, these are so important and in-grained into other countries football leagues throughout the world.
Another problem I see is the distance for travel of away fans, which again makes it difficult to create the same kind of fan base that other leagues have.
Possibly the biggest reason I don't thin kit will become the greatest league in the world, is that there is no penalty for failure. In every other league throughout the world, if a team finishes last in the league, they get relegated to a lower league and new competitor rises to the challenge.
How can anyone truely call themselves a winner, if they can't truely fail?

I also like the fact that MLS has finally grasped the idea to stop marketing to the people who don't love 'soccer' and play up to the people who love the sport and feel a passion for it. I think the next step is foster more academies rather than university footballers and find a way to broadcast the matches without having to resort to ESPN3 of FOX.reply

Agreed. They're much better than before in that they may be able to compete with League 1 or even Championship League teams slotted for relegation, but MLS is under the CONCACAF shadow, which is a mickey mouse organisation compared to UEFA or even CONMEBOL.reply
