I also feel that Actors/Actress get paid way too much as well. CEOs make too much as well. Their salaries should be tied to the performance of the company. I do feel however that if you start a company and take all the risks associated with that company you should make as much as you can. I do have a problem of companies hiring VP & CEOs who just jump from company to company and give them golden parachutes.

Almost forgot. Supermodels. We have a huge problem when a model gets more money in 1 day for walking down a runway than a teacher does in 5 years.

I should have hit "undecided." Actually, in many instances they are paid what they are worth to the team and the sport. There are some, however, who are overpaid, but the majority are paid for their "draw." That's what brings money into that particular sport. And although sometimes the dollar figure is mind-boggling, it nonetheless is sometimes less than it should be. Besides, as a general rule, sports stars don't have many years in which to earn the bucks anyway because their "life span," as far as their sport is concerned, is short.

I know that sometimes I hear about some guy's contract figure and I want to toss my cookies right then and there. But then it's these "stars" that generate far more money than they're being paid. And that money employs people, provides income for all kinds of professions, and gives enjoyment to the fans. So, overall, nah, I don't think professional athletes are overpaid. Just sounds that way.

Well they spend most of their time training and drinking Energy drinks, taking steroids which are called performance enhancement powders and then go for Protein shakes and pump iron the whole day or run around the field over and over again and then stretch and get it over and done with in two hours and then spend the rest of the day reading or sleeping amongst other stuff. And a day before the main event go to a pub and take a beer or two to hide the traces of the steroids and go over to ace the track and get rich doing that.
There is a difference, they use what they do just for a short while as they destroy their bodies at a young age and use the money accumulated to keep themselves alive at a later stage as they batter their body beyond repair.
While artists on screen and in music do practice throughout their lifetime and only get paid when they have sponsors and cut record deals or movie deals. There is no money that comes through beyond that essentially making them paupers. They all have great big names but no money to fund anything but themselves. They have lean mass to keep strong and are infact more sturdy than the athletic counterparts.

I was a professional athlete and gave up just when I saw steroids introduced into swimming. I escaped it but my friends were not too lucky one put on excessive weight and the other went down with chronic tendinitis, fat, depression and is unable to have a family because of this.
This girl was a poor girl who did it to bring her family up and had no idea of the complications as she had to pay for a T3T4TSH test almost every month and her body was just too painful to touch.
What they are doing by paying high amounts is taking out the natural sport from the body to introduce synthetic enhancement which have health ailments and that is what they fund for by paying such high prices for them.
Cut their pay and then bring back the natural life to sports and watch people live longer with less hype as there are many people around who are better than who and what they are. I love to recognise these people who naturally train and come up in life rather than demand for high pays and develop an attitude just to get endorsed and then crash out when their body starts to give way and then the spending of money kicks in.

If someone is willing to pay it, then they are worth it.
It's also strange how sports stars are always getting accused of this when no one ever says "that movie star's overpaid" or "that singer is never worth the money they are getting".

A player is worth what a sports owner is willing to pay based on return on investment. Unfortunately we as the fans pay that price in the form of ridiculously priced sport event tickets, ten dollar beer and seven dollar hot dogs.

They are paid with the entertainment dollar. If you don't like it, quit watching and buying the products endorsed. I feel the professional athletes are receiving just compensation for the entertainment they provide. Would you rather the owners make all the money?

Sure, but the public is willing to pay for that so they allows them to get the salaries and benefits they currently have. Plus, they have a kick butt union too.

I used to think that they were over paid - and in a way I still do. But, then I thought about it in comparison to what the team owners and other executives in the business make. Why shouldn't the athletes who are out there getting pummeled to bring in the fans get their fair share also. I don't blame them for going for what they can get. But, it would be wonderful to see other hard working people get a break as well. Just wishful thinking.

I basically think yes, but they are in a business that makes millions and millions. Even more in advertising and all that. So they get a handsome chunk. Too bad school teachers can't do that. Doctors too, not that they make bad money but they are more important. And what about nurses? They don't even make great money and they are so short at hand. We need many more and to pay them well.
