I think you actually have to search for it.

Commercial radio rarely has it, the common mainstream demographic music recording store rarely has it either.

Lucky I have the internet and can browse until my heart is content.

I think that a large proportion of free music under a creative commons licence is loads better than the factory production line machine that poops out today's pop and rock stars.

It should depend on what genre or the meaning of the song is. Such as ppl say metal is getting worse bcuz ppl do nothing but scream in the mic and talk about violence but thats not true.

There is still some good music today, but you have to try to find it. You can't just turn on any radio station and expect it. Good music used to be on nearly every radio station including the mainstream ones. Now the mainstream stations are loaded with absolute crap! There is only one radio station I can listen to nowadays and most of the music on there is from the 80s or 90s anyway.

Just what's popular. I'm not one of those kids who tries to say that "oh music sucks today the 90s were better" just to look cool. But 90% of what's on top 40 or what people my age in my town listen to is too electro or either dubstep.

Well, I do believe there are some legitimately good songs out there being made nowadays....but then there's the fake, mainstream crap that is being spoon fed to people. Starships were meant to fly? Baby, baby, baby, ohh? I kinda miss the deeper more meaningful lyrics XD

It really depends on the genre. Pop definitely sucks today. As for the other genres like rock, alternative or indie, I think it's getting better. There are some really good bands today who make amazing music.

I personally believe the popular music you hear on the radio is simple, repetitive, and is made to cater to the general populace...society is being dumbed down enough to where said simple music is okay.
So, in a sense, it is getting worse; however, I don't think it is, it's just that the bad music is more known to the public. If you look hard enough, you can find good music that is still being made today.

I also wonder if part of the problem is that now any dick can make their music available even if they're crap. It used to be that a musician had to work to get their music recognized, so only the best ones made it through. Now with things like You Tube, and being able to easily download music making software, any fool can produce and distribute their "music".
