Here's how I differentiate:

If you can be a pack-a-day smoker, and still be a champion,
it's not a sport.
It's a game.

Therefor, golf is a game.

Lots of money made playing golf. That doesn't make it a real sport because much money is made at pro wrestling. Golf though is real.

I didn't care about playing the money was great and for just being in high school back in the early 60's I was making a hundred a weekend.
