Do you think crowd noise effects the outcome of a football game?

Pip 2009/01/05 03:09:27
Not problem, their pros, they can handle it!
Sure, it can be a problem, but that's part of the game

The crowd noise can get deafening in some of the domed stadiums. Making it nearly impossible for a quarterback to call signals. What is your take on this? Is it a huge advantage for the home team?

our stadium, qwest field, was designed to project noise even though it's an outdoor stadium. and it's no different than any baseball team playin at home.

Definitely, half of the time no one can hear each other and they are running around like mice in a Science experiment, than again I'm an eagles fan and they do that regardless.

I'm thinking it would be a problem at first but if you've been playing for awhile you'd kind of get used to it after awhile.

Perhaps not, but it could give them a better shot then usual! On the other hand, what would happen, if Peyton Manning played Eli at a windy wet Giants Stadium. Who would have the advantage?

Yes in dooms its more intense a few years back I went to a Steeler game at the GA Dome my ear were ringing when I left.

I was wondering how bad the noise was in a domed stadium?

I was sitting 6rows behind the 50 behind the Falcons.Heinz field is great on a sunny day but I liked the dome setting better even with the noise. And not to mention me being with a group of Steelers jerseys they were friendly to us.

Do you think there is an advantage for the domed stadium teams in any way? Do you think the traditional open air stadium gives that home team any advantage?

Well that game the Falcons outrplayed us it was a 80 some point game they beat us like 41-38 it was close but our QB was slipping up but our offensive line held good, but that was back in the Michael Vick days.

If you have gone to any sports event the crowd noise is part of the experience. If it is quite then the home team is doing bad, but a crowd could energize them to perform a little better during the later half of the game or even the next play!

True, but do you think the domed stadiums give a greater advantage?

Actually I think it can give an advantage to the visiting team. Some domes are built with an acoustic absorbing material that can reduce the echoing (sort of like in a sound booth, but bigger) which can actually take in the screaming. Others like an opened roofed dome bounce the sound back inwards and can actually get louder as it travels back to the center of the field depending on the frequency of the sound being produced and for how long it is produced for.

So... I forgot the question (lol). Oh is it an open domed then yes, if it is a closed one then debatable.

oh yeah, on the field at the Cortaca Jug (over 10,000 people) ridiculously loud, I can't imagine over 80,000 at a pro game. but it doesn't have a negative or positive effect... it just effects each player differently. some might buckle under the pressure some eat it up.

I was at one game and couldn't even hear the annoucer talking. 3 false starts for the opposing team. That is part of the game and really gets the fans going. The sport is for the fans!!!

It has it's positive effects.. on the other side it does effect the game. Especially the referee. He will make other dicisions when the whole crowd is gone mad, then when there is nobody in the stadium, while it is the same foul. I'm sure of that.
