Do you think Argo was the best film of the year?

Oscar has a bit of egg on its golden face. “Argo” took home the Best Picture award during Sunday night’s Academy Awards. The film’s director, Ben Affleck, was famously left off of Oscar’s Best Director list of nominees. Affleck, who sped through an emotional acceptance speech, did not mention the snub, and had only kind words to say about his film's competitors. "There are eight great films that have every right, as much a right to be up here as we do," Affleck said.

I haven't seen it so it's hard to say, but my vote definitely would have gone to "Lincoln." Not only was Daniel Day Lewis's performance so good that he made you think he was Lincoln, he was surrounded by outstanding performances from Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field and a host of others. Add to that a terrific script, authentic costuming, and you saw one of the most important events in American history, Republicans passing the 13th Amendment over the objections of most Democrats.

The Islamic Republic of Iran was and is a major threat to our way of life. Watch Iranium which exposes their plans to hit the US with a nuclear EMP attack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?...

It was a good movie, not great but good. Lincoln was a way better movie, even though we all know the outcome it was done so well it kept you on the edge of your seat. Sally Field was great.

"Argo is a very timely movie in the sense that Iran and the situation there has gotten so much news attention, so for Americans to watch the Iranians defeated on the screen, that's a big deal, because we haven't been able to defeat them in real life.

But the movie has a propagandistic subtext which is a little troubling in a country where our leaders seem to be drifting towards war and conflict with Iran.

It's not a movie that gives you a lot of context and background about what happened there ... Most of the drama is really about outwitting the Iranians and of course that was not what ended the hostage crisis."

Django was the best. Of course, since the "n" word was invented for the film and would've never been used during slavery, it couldn't win. DDL was brilliant as Lincoln but the film was flat in my opinion. I would've gone Silver Linings PLaybook second. Zero Dark Thirty was like watching a bad episode of Homeland. Life of Pi looked pretty but had no real substance. Argo was the most disappointing because I expected the most from it. Flight, Beasts of the Southern Wild and The Impossible were all better films. Again, just my opinion.

I haven't seen it yet or a few of the others (plan to next month since a lot of them come out in March on DVD) but I do think it got the award because the Academy was embarrassed by not nominating Ben Affleck for best director. I think if he had gotten that nomination as well as best picture the film might not have won that award.

It didn't really seem to hold focus on any character long enough to be able to care about them. like i said. better on stage than on screen.

What justice are they awaiting? Last I heard they were waiting for a payout.

No, what they want is to be financially compensated for damages. Instead of reading partisan books try listening to the actual surviving hostages. ;-)

When you said book "written by more than a few" you did not it was not clear you were talking about the hostages. I have read/listened to numerous interviews with the hostages, but am unaware of and unable to locate any books written by the actual hostages. Can you please give me some titles?
