Do You Have Sympathy for Floyd Mayweather?

Boxing's pound-for-pound best Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. may be the toughest in the ring, but outside of it, that looks to be far from the case when he has to suffer consequences for his real-life actions. It was just a few weeks ago after his victory over Miguel Cotto, that Mayweather said in his post-fight interview that he was going to serve his jail sentence like a man and take full responsibility for his actions. That hasn't happened.

Yes, Mayweather is in jail due to attacking his girlfriend in front of his children and started his sentence on June 1, but his people are begging Las Vegas and the state of Nevada to let him out -- and put him on house arrest. Why? They claim because Mayweather is in solitary confinement that his condition is deteriorating and that by the end of this jail sentence, he could never fight again. His people have asked the judge to move Mayweather to the jail's general population, but for security concerns, that might not happen.

It's been said Mayweather won't get moved because it'll be accommodating a criminal even more than he's already been. He was actually supposed to serve his sentence earlier, but the judge allowed him to fight once more before that. A report from Yahoo! Sports also states that Mayweather's people are saying he's underfed, but in reality, he's just been rejecting jail food. This isn't supposed to be the Marriott, buddy. You commit the crime, you do the time. Shouldn't Floyd Mayweather feel lucky his celebrity status got him off lighter than expected? Should “Money” man up?

There are always two side to every story.., and looking at Floyd's situation on the surface based on the way laws are rendered one could reason that he does not deserve sympathy.
But what led to the altercation..? did she strike him...? I'm just not one of those men that feels no matter what a woman do she get's a free past.

If she can hit someone.., someone should be able to hit back.., How was she conducting herself in front of the kids just prior to the physical encounter? No one is saying anything about that. A woman is no more special than a man and shouldn't be treated any different just because she is a woman.

Now I am not advocating that women should be beat on.., but at the same time when she get in one of those "I'll slap your face moods because she don't like something he said..., well..., she just injected a new rule into the game.

I have never understood how it is that the cops can come on the scene and they insist that you keep your hands where they can see them and you should not make any sudden moves. And if you attack them with just your hands they pepper spray your ass whether you are a woman or a man. Yet if a woman hit a man and he sat her ass down for it.., he is wrong. Now the cop just peeped her ass for the first time and he peppered sprayed her . On ...

Everybody has their breaking point, and their comes a time when enough is enough. I blame these celebrities for going after women that are not equally yoked that are seeking benefits. Like I said none of us were their and do not know the hold story.., but I just do not see Floyd as the kind of man that would just come in the door and go where is my bitch..? I feel like kicking her ass, there is more to this story. Sorry I am just not feeling this one...JOMO

He is paying for the consequences of his own actions. I have sympathy for his girlfriend and children, not for him.

why should we give him sympathy? he should serve his sentence like other people do... here's my thing, celebtrities should have it no different then the rest of us... if we do something wrong we should get the sentence or punishment that we should. so should famous people. do i wish mayweather the best after he gets outta jail? of course! i hope he gets his act together.

Sympathy and empathy. If he did, he deserves to be in jail, for some time. Prisons are a country inside a Country, indeed. Prisons have their own laws, often at odds with the Constitution. Solitary confinement does not rehabilitate a guy. It is cruel punishment. What a violent guy needs to become better person? A psychological treatment, and group meetings of special support. Nobody ask why he did that, or how did he live in childhood. Only cage NEVER will rehabilitate ANY human being.

People get arrested for crimes all of the time and it ruins their career, why should a cheating midget with padded scores and a loud mouth get any special treatment ?

I don't have sympathy for him, it's terrible that he attacked his girlfriend. People like him, and Chris Brown, should be thrown in jail, and never able to be hired again. If someone that wasn't famous attacked their girlfriend, they'd have a hole crap ton of jail time, and then it would be incredibly difficult for them to find a job, but because he's famous he probably won't have as much time in jail and go back to boxing like nothing ever happened.

If you wait until he is "out of his prime" to serve his time, how does that constitute punishment?

Well, I agree that his last outings have left a bit to desire. I would point out though, that he has had a lot on his plate. You do, however, have to admit that he has taken down some very serious competition in his career. I am floored that they took this last fight from Pacquiao. Though Bradley may be no slouch, he got his ass handed to him in this last outing. I also wonder what ever happened to you have to "take" a fighters belt, unconditionally in a decision. Also, Pac Man did just out punch, out box and out fight Bradley (Judges...Go figure). Anyhow, I agree that Mayweather has slid quite a bit...Just a thought...

PS. In his prime, (Sweet pea) Pernell Whitaker would have embarrassed both....

He is just a man. Unfortunately, he is like many others in the boxing world, that have developed troubled lives. Seems that when you train a human being to do battle, spoil them like a thoroughbred stallion, and give them more money than the combined trust of some small third world countries, you end up with problems. Who knew?
Boxing is highly demanding, highly taxing and psychologically damaging. Unfortunately, it is also highly attractive, and unimaginably lucrative. The prospect of winning, in a single fight, more money that virtually anyone will ever see, in several lifetimes ( even if you loose), is an attractive, seductive and all consuming thing. Most in the fight game, rise from very humble ( I am being so politically correct) surroundings. Should they rise, to even near the top of their game, they can take on iconic, and nearly mythical status.
Floyd Mayweather, has the distinction of being, pound for pound, one of the all time greats. This adds yet another dynamic, to an already emotionally and psychologically overburdened system.
The real truth of the matter? Their just people, no different than you and I. Their only real mistake? To be amazingly talented, endlessly gifted and still very human. When you expose such a human, to the cesspool that is the boxing worl...

When you expose such a human, to the cesspool that is the boxing world, you have a recipe for disaster. I cant imagine what the inner world of a professional athlete is like. Moreover, I can not begin to fathom, what it must be like to be a prize fighter, especially of Floyd Mayweathers caliber. You teach a living thing to do battle for its dinner, and then are aghast, when it bites...Just a thought...
