Do You Have 'Superhero Fatigue'?

You!

With superhero flicks causing a "traffic jam" in theaters this summer, we may all be suffering from a case of "superhero fatigue." "Thor," "X-Men: First Class," "Green Lantern," "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," "Captain America: The First Avenger": Is this too much of a good thing?

How many comic-book "origins" movies will audiences pay to see in seven weeks? For North American moviegoers, apparently, three's a crowd.

"Green Lantern," the first movie to be based on the trans-galactic hero introduced by DC comics in 1941, won the weekend with $52.7 million, according to early studio estimates — but that was the lowest take for the summer season's preternatural dudes.

In early May, audiences bought into "Thor," giving the Marvel thunder god $65.7 million in the film's first three days and a current worldwide gross of about $435 million.

Two weeks ago, Marvel's "X-Men: First Class" managed a three-day opening of $55.1 million, and has already bagged a quarter-billion dollars globally.

With a traffic jam of megamuscular god-men at the multiplexes, viewers could be suffering from superhero fatigue. Sorry, they may say, I already gave at the box office.

Have you had your fill of superhero movies?

I love superhero movies, grew up watching Batman, but I do think these movies should be taken in stride so everyone DOESN'T get superhero fatigue.

Not at all! I'm glad I live in a time when the tech has caught up to the imagination and we can see how creators envisioned their characters as they really want to. This is a great time to be a fan of the genre, and I am!

We pulp fans have waited a lonnnnnnnnnng time for technology (and Hollywood interest) to catch up so they can actually make great comic-based movies. We are LONG overdue! So, you better believe we want more! They've been making comics-based movies since the 40s! And 99% of them between then and the turn of the century have been absolute garbage! THIS IS OUR TIME! . . . EXCELSIOR!

I love Superhero movies. They are pretty awesome.
But I wouldn't blame Green Lantern's poor performance due to people getting sick of superheros, I'd blame the crazy amounts of CGI they used and the advertisements.

I was done after Superman III. I thought Hancock was a unique take, but not sure the movie was well executed. Same for Watchmen. Lots of potential, but ... eh. If a Batman movie has a Joker in it, I'll find it entertaining... but I mean "television rerun" entertaining, not "plunk down $50 to see it in a theater" entertaining.

What Willie said. Not to mention getting there, parking, etc. It's not just the cost of a ticket - and I don't like to go alone - so it's not just a ticket for one person.

No, I am looking forward to Captain America! I haven't seen Green Lantern as of yet, will be going this week. Have seen Thor and is a very good movie. Transformers is not my favorite, but still going because my son wants to see it.

I've been a fan of comic books since I was a kid, and all of these superhero movies are a dream come true for me, so that's never going to be a problem for me at all, no.I will be seeing Green Lantern this weekend and I'm sure I will really enjoy it.Even if a Green Arrow movie would have been much cooler, but I'm sure that's only inevitable.Just how successful they are financially or not well, frankly I don't really give a rats ass about.I love how some people cold never fathom a superhero movie being any good.Their obvious superficial level of thought and lack of imagination is so pathetic that you can laugh at it.

I freaking LOVE movies based on comics. i'm not so much of a nerd that i have problems with any little inconsitancy, but i'm enough of a nerd to just love the characters. If i had the money, i'd go see all those films...
oh... well... yeah actually maybe not captain america or transformers definately, but if i had free movie tickets and heaps of spare time i'd go

... Well, you see, every cinema charges different amounts, and when they're as far away as Australia one would assume the price would vary greatly.
My two closest cinemas charge the same amount not matter what time of day i go. One of them is $12AUD for a student ticket, the other is $13.50AUD. I'm pleased that you have cheap movie tickets, but with as much respect as pssible i would like to indicate that i disliked how you seemed to assume that i was just an idiot who didn't know how much a movie ticket would cost her.
