I changed my station to an alternative indie one because they actually play good music, instead of that mainstream pop dance crap they drill into your head obsessively.

I work on an internet radio station called Kool Rock Radio, KoolRockRadio.com. I must listen to just about 50 new releases a week doing research and trying to get shows together. I don't get paid for my work, no one does. We all do it for the love of music. But I can tell you that now I understand what a program director or music director goes through. It is tough picking out new music from unknown bands.

I love good music but repetitive lyrics and the same beat over and over is pathetic, and that for me is mostly rap and hip hop. Give me good R&B;, Jazz, Rock and I am a happy camper.

If someone suggests a band or artist I haven't heard before, I will search them on iTunes, and preview a few of their songs. That usually gives me a good indication of if I'd like it. Recently found The xx in that way on this very site.

And while I'm here... Here are some suggestions of artists to check out. This is to everyone!

    Undertheigloo
    Portugal. The Man
    American Football

But it gets harder and harder each day. Most of this mainstream "music" is crap. A bunch of no-talents trying to hold on to fame using any stunt that they(or their publicists) can think of.

There are some genres I know I will not like, so I generally don't waste my time sifting through in hopes of finding something that'll catch my interest, but I am open to things that are similar to what I'm already interested in.

Space Music seems to be my favorite.

Also I started listening to Indie pop, or Indie Rock...

Not to sound too clichéd with the "I listen to everything" nonsense, because I don't. I don't listen to any country music, and no rap at all. And though I'll listen to new music and oftentimes like it, I have to admit I listen primarily to the music I've known for a long time. I don't mind giving new music a chance, but a lot of the time I won't listen to it ever again.
