Do you have a favourite vocal performance? you know, great song, great band, and a great singer with a better than awesome voice, and they totally nail it. they just smash it into the ground. what have you got?

hapman 2012/07/27 07:01:42

this is ronnie james dio fronting black sabbath. the song is neon knights off the heaven and hell album. it's killer. it just rips it up. if you like this sort of thing that is. my taste has moved on and I hardly ever listen to this stuff anymore, because it's all a bit too spinal tap, but it's my favourite vocal performance of all time. the sound is the studio recorded version on the album, so it's definitely not what was coming through the front of the house where the visuals were filmed. but they fit together amazingly well. I've seen a lot worse. this song was part of the soundtrack to my youth and it's pretty special to me. see what you think.

I don't need to hear the voice to know that it's a young ronnie dio in the band he was with before rainbow. but I will definitely listen to it because I haven't heard any of that album before. I am familiar with trying to burn the sun, which is rather good. here's a nice taste in case you're not. ummm, familiar, that is, not good. I'm sure you're good, mancandy, I'm sure you're fabulous.

fabulous choice, mancandy. if you haven't seen the delicate sound of thunder dvd, umm I think you'd quit like it. I was going to tell you all about the three hot girl singers in short, tight, little black numbers and how well they do the great gig. but, the girls won't have the same effect on you, and it's not a concert dvd. the soundtrack bears no resemblance to what was coming out the front of the house at the gig or gigs the visuals were filmed at. sad, really. a faked pink floyd concert video. it's more of a feature length music clip. they were never really pink floyd without roger. he kept all that stuff in order. he was the musical director and he wrote most of the material. I don't think the other guys wanted to admit how much they need him. so they did delicate sound to show everyone they could do it and they couldn't do it. pulse at least is a real live performance. but it feels really uncoordinated, pedestrian, uninspired and has no energy. delicate sound might be a big video clip but at least it's interesting. and I notice the pic is from the short period when sid and dave were both in the band. any deliberate intent?

love that. must be hard to generate that kind of performance, though, if they're touring a show and it's the same stuff every gig. I love it when the band's flying and not just going through the motions.

ok. but if you think the 80s were so long ago they're irrelevant, you probably won't like them.

Maybe, I do like classic rock though, like whitesnake, bon jovi, and songs from like the 60's all the way up to now, like Frankie goes to hollywood, blondie, adele, ect. So I like to test my senses especially with music.

cool. then you should like those dvds, I think. I used to love the 79-82 whitesnake, when john lord, ian paice, bernie marsden, mickey moody and neil murray were in it. and coverdale, of course.

couple of really good albums. but I don't have the same passion for anything anymore. it's the medication, or at least it is to some degree. it keeps me flat so I don't have extreme mood swings. I used to love music. now I'm totally apathetic.

I love the vocals of Geoff Tate of Queensryche (there are other singers that I love as well, though). His aunt was an opera singer and his voice reminds me a bit of one, so he's just an incredibly great singer. I've seen them about 5 times but I read that he recently left the band.
