When I think back on my often turbulent life this song always comes to mind and my thoughts are always tinged with sadness when I listen to the words which say so much to me...
Was it REALLY all better mate!! Or are we just suffering from that well known 'ocular disorder' that comes with the advancing years: looking at the past through rose coloured glasses...!!
As kids we were a pest, that i cannot deny, but we knew where the line was drawn and were prepared to take the consequences. We neither had nor wanted anything, a game of football in the street or bike made from the debris of others (never a new one) and we were mostly happy. Looking at the trappings of our upwardly mobile lives now and i think we were easily pleased. I also believe that because of such humble beginnings, now that i am retired i don't find life so hard with living on a pension (limited budget), our generation know what it's like to need rather than want, i don't need anything Ray, but i have a long list of wants, lol.
True and sensible comments bf-and ones I can personally relate to.
As regards 'needs' and 'wants'-well, the minute we stop entirely 'wanting' things, that's the the 'minute' we would be "better aff deid"- as the old Glesga saying goes-as I am sure you know!
Ha ha, i certainly do, and corned beef is deaf in rhyming slang :)) I thought it would be generous act to leave all of my 'wants' to my friends in my Will, it'll give them something to aspire to, what do you think ?
Bad Boy, Money, Baby You're a Rich Man, She Loves You. I Wanna Hold Your Hand, From Me To You. Hey Jude, My Bonnie (backing Tony Sherridan), Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Sgt. Pepper. Real Love,Yesterday, She's Leaving Home, Taxman, Yes It Is, Ticket To Ride are just for starters so is that enough to be going on with lol?
Oops! I'll have to work out how to do that some time really soon. For now though I am waiting for a new cooker to arrive and need to get some ironing done. So maybe I'll be able to sort it out a bit later when I've had time to decide which one to do.
I know Penny Lane well, the bus stop is still there on the island in the road.
Love me do was the 1st record i bought of the Beatles. Brings back old memories of my youth. :0)
I was still at school when they were at their height but it was still exciting, lots of great Merseyside groups about. I saw quite a lot of stars on the clubs around Liverpool. Do you remember the 4 most, Mike Millward of the group died, they had a concert for him in The Grafton, lots of famous people performed that night it was Great, i was only 15 at the time, went with some friends, what a night. All the clubs have long gone now. The Empire is still there, i remember seeing Jerry Lee Lewis on there + a lot of old country stars. Those where the days my friend.
I forgot that you are just a kid :)) us older ones made the most of the days and nights back then...so much freedom and so much love, those were the days Lizzy you are right...
She was Welsh though, but i did enjoy this one. I always thought it had a Russian sound to it. 5yrs made a big difference back then. We never had much money those days but there was a lot of fun + laughter about.
