If I had to pick just one it would be Alfred Hitchcock, I can't pick just one though.
Elia Kazan, Otto Preminger, Billy Wilder, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Coen Bros. and John Waters. I also really like Christopher Nolan and Clint Eastwood that BH named. I am trying to keep it short but I could keep going.

Well I have yet to see Lolita and Barry Landon. I absolutely LOVED 2001: A Space Odyssey.

It's one of those films you can watch over and over and always be amazed.. very ahead of it's time as well. I love his use of classical music in films, like Clockwork Orange.

I know what you mean. Yes, that was great in Clockwork Orange. The use of Singing In The Rain during one scene was amazing and yet disturbing.

Indeed is was, and that was his intention. Heck, the entire film was disturbing! I do like to watch something that makes me think or affects me in some way.. all the other stuff is just "passing time".. that's why I have little ineterst in romantic comedies...

Me too. Yes it was intended to be disturbing and that means I though it was very interesting. Those are the best movies to watch IMO.

Douglas Sirk is another favorite of mine. If you want to watch a movie that will make you bawl your eyes out check out "Imitation of Life" the '59 version directed by Sirk. It is truly an amazing film. Gus Van Sant is another great director.Russ Meyer, Sidney Lumet, Orson Welles, Coppola.
