I used to play a game called Monarchy. It was a browser based text game based RPG, with for the time, a massive international player base and community board system. My first "Age", I came out of NPP ranked at like 1199. It went through several changes, becoming "Canon", then went pay to play for a year or so, and lost most of the player base to WoW and other games with graphics. As the player base dwindled, and code was changed people started being more obsessed with winning than following the long observed honor code that had been community enforced. Transgressions began being made up to justify gangbanging and "faith sweeps". Multi accounting and bug exploitation became rampant, and the community became ever more toxic. It's back to being called Monarchy now, but only has a small fraction of players. I haven't played the game in 5 or 6 years now, but still visit the boards a couple times a week. usually there aren't any new posts.
Other than that, I haven't done any online gaming to speak of. I started on the one above on WebTV and it was one of the few that was friendly to it. By the time I got a comp I was so immersed in it that I had no time for anything else. Now I'd just as soon talk to folks.
I second that. Also The Sims Social is quite addictive but at the same time annoying. Too many steps in a quest. I play it on FB just because I barely can manage the time to play The Sims 3 on PC.
