When I'm hiring someone, I always ask if they have a favorite author. I get a little suspicious of them if they give just one name, :-) I have hundreds of favorite books!
Although there are several -- my favorites include the wit and wisdom of DiscWorld (Terry Pratchett's series). Fun read, interesting, and does make one think too!
I doubt I could pick a favourite. Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings are easily at the top. The Hobbit too. I love pretty much all the thillers by James Patterson, his killers are so sadistic but fascinating. I love The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, for the original plotlines.
It's hard to pick a complete favourite honestly.
No...really....I am serious.... ;-P Well, since my paperback version was 1200 pages, there are some things that are left out of the movies and play versions. :-)
That's usually the case with any book to movie/play :( Although who would want to sit FOREVER staring at a movie screen? That's how I felt when I saw the Lord of the Ring Return of the King. I thought it was ending like 10 different times. And then I read the book and noticed they'd left out some stuff.
Too many to name. I did my master's thesis in English lit on D.H. Lawrence, but I love lots of writers. William Faulkner, Joseph Conrad, Cormac McCarthy, Emily Bronte. Lots more. :)
It's hard to pick a complete favourite honestly.
My most recent fiction reads were 1984 and the Maltese Falcon...but you may have already known that :P
And I re-read Beowulf recently.
I'm going to have to hit up my book case later and get back to you on this

I will say that currently I am in LOVE with the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series!
Small Steps- Louis Sachar
The Demonata- Darren Shan
How would you compare the book to the play? I've never read/seen either
