This year, six of the nine films nominated for “Best Picture” at the Academy Awards were based on books: "Hugo," “War Horse,” “Moneyball,” “The Descendants,” “The Help,” and “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.”
Last year, half of the “Best Picture” nominees were adapted from books: “The King’s Speech,” “True Grit,” “The Social Network,” “Winter’s Bone,” and “127 Hours.”
A number of other book-to-movie adaptations picked up nominations at 2012’s 84th Annual Academy Awards. They included: "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," "Albert Nobbs," "My Week With Marilyn," "The Adventures of Tintin," "Drive," and "Jane Eyre.”
Some people love this trend, but others are adamant that movie adaptations are “never as good as the book.”

I guess it just depends. Harry Potter for example was a fantastic book series and a good movie series. Same with The girl with The Dragon Tattoo.
If I like the book, I will definitely go.
But I'm almost always disappointed.
They tend to cut way too much of the story or even, on occasion, change it in a fundamental way.
Nicholas sparks movies?? not so much... :)
My favorite was Breakfast at Tiffany's!
