He is neither an artist or pervert. He was/is a publisher who's goal was to publish a men's magazine with quality articles, opinion, interviews, and humor. That gamble he took in puritan America of the fifties was to include tasteful photos of nude women as the gimmick. I would say it worked.

You need an "other" answer for this one. I don't think he's necessarily a pervert but he's not an artist either. He realized that porn is a big seller in those shadowy adult bookstores and all he did was clean it up to look artistic and package it as a a high end, sophisticated magazine for men. The women were beautiful and looked like the fresh faced young girl next door instead of the kind of trashy, vulgar, hard look you find in real porn. I think he probably has an addiction to sex at this point but there is probably a large number of men (& women) who could be classified as that too.
So whether he's an artist or a pervert, what he really is, is a Marketing genius.
