    Swimming, Diving, and equestrian.

Sad that Shawn Johnson retired, but her knees just could not take the pressure anymore.

Isn't that sad about Shawn? In the NFL, you're considered old around 32 or so. In the NBA, it's around 35, and I think the you can last the longest in MLB. But Ms. Johnson is ONLY 21 years old. And her knees hurt already? :( I'm sure she'll be able to find something else to do. I think she's applying to go to college... not 100% sure. I wish her a lot a luck and I hope that our gymnastics team bring home the GOLD!!!!! :)

Sad, but the impact that gymnasts take on their ankles and knees usually does take them out early. Sadly, as of the last Olympics, with China fielding a team with mostly 12 year olds, they are getting younger and destroying their bodies faster. Gymnastics needs a major age minimum for competition at the national and international level. Other sports, NEED the more emotionally mature athletes and gymnastics would do well to bring the gals along a little more slowly, and allow that maturity and it would allow their bones to grow properly and without the stress fracturing so many of them get.

I think you're right about the age limitations in ALL sports. I started playing contact football when I was 6 years old. I played football through college. Then I joined the US Army (Infantry)... I ran on multiple types of surfaces, six or more miles a day, jumped out of airplanes, road marches, field exercises... Now, I work for the Federal Government, and I am 47 years old. I look young for my age, but my knees and ankles are killing me!!! On top of that, I just found out I have gout! Ouch!

So, I feel for those young women and men (boys & girls) that are in gymnastics and other sports similar to that.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have taken up swimming! :) lol

Swimming is the perfect exercise. Elliptical machines are also great. My adopted child is a Marine with 6 afghan/iraq deployments under his belt, had to use one during rehab for his back injury.

Don't forget to get all of your documents so you can file your VA claim.

That is funny you mentioned that... I have an appointment at VA in a few days. :)

I have a younger brother in the Marines with 4 tours in afghan/iraq. I was there when I was in the Army too.

Thanks for the advice about the Elliptical machines.

Smokey, the VA usually wants an entire copy of your medical and service records. So, be prepared to get them if you haven't already. And keep going to the DR with knee, ankle, back issues, More documentation means a higher or faster claim.

Went thru all of that with my ex hub, good thing I knew the system because of my dad, and I had made him go repeatedly. he had great records.

Thanks for the advice. I enjoyed serving in the US Army, but when I got out I thought it was "weak" of me to complain about my medical problems. That was a huge mistake on my part, and now I'm claiming everything, including my surgerys I had while in the military.

PROBLEM: I'm about 30 lbs. overweight now, and I'm having difficultires finding other things to do besides running.... I want to purchase a bicycle and ride on our bike trails. The ONE problem I have is MOTIVATION. :)

My wife and I live and work in the Washington D.C. area. You go in early and leave late (traffic). When I get home, I don't feel like doing anything else but talk to my wife, relax, and fall asleep! :) But, I want to get better again in shape.

    Have any good suggestions?

Here is a video of a man who took control of his service related disabilities, Watch it all the way thru, you might get some motivation from him cause it is SUCH a triumph after they told him he would ever walk again.

You and your wife could do this together, at home, with just DVD's.
