My nephews talk like that to their parents. They do not talk to me that way nor did any of my kids more than once.

I don't have kids, but my parents never hit me they believed in REAL respect for elders. Not I'm scared shitless so I'm going to do what ever you tell me to.

I'll give a good tongue lashing before a swat...but grounding and whooping don't solve the issues. I'm stern enough in my tone to get the message across and cleaver enough to take away things they love until they earn them back.

Well, having experience in parenting, I feel that when children are young, there are certain behaviors that warrant a tap on the hands or on the bum. Mind you, I said "tap". I don't believe in "beating" or "whuppin" (that's the word!). However, when I take away a something my child really enjoys, I get my point across and the lesson is learned very quickly.

I was beat badly as a child, I would never raise a hand towards my own.

Both, I have a 2 yr old so i havent got to the grounding part. But yes i spank my son on the butt, and the butt only, in extreme cases.. Like today he bolted out the door down the side walk. I cracked his butt because he ran from me by the road. It totally freaked me out and he doesnt understand that thats dangerous...

I spank my daughters about once a month, and it has to be something serious. So far, I have only smacked my oldest in the mouth ONCE, which means I have very commendable restraint. Puberty sucks. I also don't spank them if they tell the truth when they do something wrong.

I am sometimes TOO honest with my children, but I was SO naive as a child, and got into some serious situations. My oldest says "TMI, mom, TMI"

kids in this town are having sex at 11. Getting pregnant at 12. Parents think that schools teach sex education. The school does NOT teach common sense and self-preservation, only safe sex practices or abstinence. No happy medium. I am confident my daughters will be so scared to have sex they may not even let their HUSBANDS touch them after the STD pics!!!

In this town it is ALL about gangs and I get really worried about my son. He likes riding his skateboard and tries making friends with the older kids to learn more. I get worried they might be trying to teach him more than a few board jumps.

I let him know EVERYDAY how "silly" or "so dumb" gangs are. He's only 7 but came home once asking what a "baller" is.

Luckily, he's really into sports and I'm doing all I can to keep it that way. He is the second smartest in his class, according to state tests and I am LOVING IT. I pray he will head down the right path and I'm making sure I'm with him every step of the way!
