All too often in sports, there have been cases of athletes having attitude issues and being sore losers. A few years ago, when on the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James left the basketball court following a loss, out of sight, out of mind, and without shaking anyone's hand. Metta World Peace aka Ron Artest made a big mistake elbowing James Harden's head into another universe, only to not apologize at all. Football's most fearsome defensive player James Harrison often shows no remorse on his opponents.

But don't tell that to young Ohio track and field athletes Meghan Vogel of West Liberty Salem and Arden McMath of Arlington. They've made national headlines for sportsmanship at its finest. McMath and Vogel raced each other on the track. McMath had about 50 meters to go, a bad mishap occurred. Her knee buckled, which in almost any case, would have doomed her chances of winning.

Vogel could have kept running, but she saw what happened to McMath -- and ran to her aide. To the amazement of the crowd, Vogel helped McMath up and willed her to to the finish line. She allowed McMath to finish ahead of her. The act of sportsmanship and classiness led to a thunderous ovation. The local media called it one of the most inspiring sports-related acts they've ever seen. Who says sportsmanship is dead? Check out the video here.

Yes there are still sportsmanship. The problem is that there's a lot of athletes who only cares about themselves, and points fingers at the whole team if him/her misses up.

Having actually PLAYED in organized sports over several years, I can state unequivicably that the REAL Emphasis in American Sports ( and probably the rest of the world) is simply on WINNING! The blood sweat and tears shed by the players were always overshadowed by the emphasis on winning. Just for the record, I don't see this as a BAD THING, just perhaps a reality check on the REAL WORLD of sport and not someone's fantasy.

Vogel actually won this event with pure Class, something that is not always seen in the sporting world today. Look at Tiger Woods. He may be a very talented golfer but he definitely has lost his fan base. These people show their true colors and their lack of integrity. I could say more but I won't.

Yes, in amateur and fun sports, people are still decent. Once you start paying people and calling them "professional" their egos get in the way and the game is played not for fun but for money and greed.

Yes, believe in sportsmanship, but also understand that sometimes in the passion of competition it can be easily to get "caught up" in certain moments for the love of the sports.......(not to make excuses)

In certain cases, but more than likely not until the event is over, if I have a chance to win I'll do that first.

Normally I'm in too much of a zone to even really see what's happening to anyone else anyways, I would have ran right past her. Also I'm pretty sure that wasn't a good idea to keep putting weight on her knee for another 50 meters, probably should have just called it quits and gotten medical attention as soon as possible.

Sportsmanship is one of the cornerstones of civility and virtue that made America great through the 1900's. Not so sure anymore, what with all the cheaters and steroid using pieces of crap. And little or no accountability. Point blank, people like Bill Belichick should be fired and held to a standard. "You're an adult. You should definitely know and do better." We should be making examples of these jerks. Enough has already been enough for a while.

Sportsmanship is an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship with one's competitors. A sore loser refers to one who does not take defeat well, whereas a good sport means being a "good winner" as well as being a "good loser"

I personally think the world witnessed an act of humanity that in current time is definitely a rarity. This young lady will go far in this selfish world that we live in currently, mostly because her values are ole school.., in other words, she believes, right, is right, and wrong is wrong and she knows the difference the two.

In her world, people are more important than prestige, can you imagine what it would be like if that was the norm in current times...?.....JOMO

I wondered if "sportsmanship" had been removed from the dictionary, I haven't seen any evidence of it in such a long time.
It's great to see that it still exists. The so called pros should take the action of these girls as a good example and learn from it.
