Do you agree with Rage Against the Machine using their status to reach youth with their political messages?

Rage Against the Machine have scheduled a concert in Minneapolis’ Target Center on September 3rd, which is the same week the Republican National Convention rolls into the Twin City of St. Paul.
8 years ago, the band played an outdoor show in Los Angeles during the Democratic National Convention, and that show ended with police using tear gas and pepper spray.
Do you think RATM - and bands in general - should use their high profile status to send political messages?

if people want to know what musicans think about politics then ppl can ask it to musicans... musicans are able to not answer! it is the right
if musicans want to say something about politics to ppl.. so... they can do it.. but ppl can not listen to it... there are too many fields to discuss the politics.. not only music... musican can use their hight satus for talking about it.. it will help them to be heard... but there is one TOOO thin moment: not everyone likes the politics, but they like music as art... talking about politics can spoils everything... there is no place for it... some policies can use the music for their dirty deals.. music is for souls.. politics - for brains
Yeah, rage is pretty awsome in that way.
There are several other artists that use their music to send a political message: the Flobots, Immortal Technique.
Sounds like the good old days, no?
Anyways, any and every being has a right to a saying. Rise Against, for instance. Not nearly as highly regarded as RATM, but hey, they've got meaning in their lyrics, Slipknot too.
Anyone hear about the dog running for mayor? And winning? It's true. Do you think if that dog shat on political grass, it'd get tasered?
Probably, but a lot of people would probably be pissed off. And a bit amused. I think this might be something like that..
Their name is "Rage Against the Machine" for a reason.
PS! a lot of these so called "politically aware" rock groups only do it for the recored sales...dont let em' fool ya. Many artists are as fake as the goverment officials you guys cant stand...
Music, movies, etc is a great way to get masses involved in politics. Like Magzilla said, it's a great way to spread awareness and even educate some people in politcal views.
If you've got the means to spread your message to a wide variety of people, why not do so? I say use your status to promote what you believe in.
