Definately not. They've become a bit mellower, in my opinion. Drifting away from the metalcore scene they were in when they first started out and are now inching closer to the essence of pure rock n roll.
It couldn't be helped. Jimmy passed away. Mike is just a temp drummer for their tour. After that they will be looking for a new permanent drummer to "Welcome to the Family" so to speak.
Well considering they went through a slight change after Waking the Fallen due to Matt blowing his voice out... Instrumentally they have do not really have a different sound. They are still the same band. Nightmare is just a whole different experience for them since Jimmy's passing so it's not exactly the same as previous albums.
I went to the Uproar show for DC. You are in for an AMAZING show from A7X. Words can not describe how awesome their set is/was. They are/were phenomenal!
Jimmy had still written all the material before he died and recorded the demo version of the songs previous to his death as well. It made it very easy for Mike to learn the songs and memorize previous material as well. He performs well too. Just watching him perform with the rest of the band it almost feels likes he's been there the whole time. Mike was very good friends with Jimmy so it just feels natural, like an extension of Jimmy in a way. Like through Mike he is very much there as if he was never gone; in an abstract way... If I'm making any sense. XD
yeah your making sence, thats all i wanted to know before tomorrow so i can debate on weather i should go or not xDD but i'd prolly still go even if Mike didnt do a good job with them. btw did i hear that Mike Portnoy dropped out of Dream Theater??
I have no idea about him leaving DT. I haven't really followed DT much. I like some of their stuff, bit I've never really followed them.
But, yes. The show is amazing. They have always been a band with very good live shows. They never disappoint. Theatrics, pyrotechnics, lights, presence, the whole shabang. There are many bands that when you listen to the album you think they would be awesome live, but aren't. And then there are bands that you think would be awesome live, and are better live than on the recording. A7X is one of the latter.
Don't forget your lighter for the tribute song to Jimmy! And enjoy the show! =]
Aw! Trust me, the adrenaline rush will last for a while. The concert ends at about 11, and it was 5 in the morning before I even started getting tired. Coffee is a friend too.
I had to look it up. Apparently Mike did announced earlier this week that he was leaving Dream Theater due to wanting a break from their meticulous schedule, and take a year off from recording and touring, but the rest of the band not wanting to.
