"Django Unchained," the latest film from visionary director Quentin Tarantino, has been delighting critics and audiences all over the country. However, some are not so happy with it. Director Spike Lee called it's depiction of slavery "disrespectful," and Slate described it as having a feeling of "vague moral unease."

Does this make it the most controversial film of 2012? Another big movie of the holiday season, "Zero Dark Thirty," came under fire for its depiction of torture, while "Cloud Atlas" was accused of containing "badly done yellowface" by the Media Network for Asian Americans thanks to its casting of white actors as Korean characters.

Other films were controversial because of Twitter beef. Samuel L. Jackson personally attached New York Times critic A.O. Scott on Twitter because of his review of "The Avengers" — which wasn't even very negative. And Kim Novak, who played the lead in "Vertigo," described the use of parts of that film's score in "The Artist" as "rape."

There were other, smaller controversial films. "2016: Obama's America" was the most successful documentary of 2012, but attitudes toward it changed after details emerged about the director's private life. And "The Innocence of Muslims" sparked outrage for depicting the prophet Mohammad (as well as being awful).

And then there's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Many fans were incensed when they found out that the short book was to be made into three 180-minute movies.

Take a look at the slideshow and tell us: Which do you think was the year's most controversial movie?

Ben Mankiewicz said it best "2016 is another reminder of how many people in this country find Obama so shockingly unlikesome that they are seemingly ready to believe the most nonsensical theories about him."

Django is certainly edgy and a painful portrail of one of the darkest eras in US history--and a bit over the top in places. After seeing this (and Lincoln) I left with the conclusion that the Civil War was absolutely the only way to purge our country of the evils of slavery. One the other hand, it didn't spark riots and murders around the world like "Innocence".

Django best movie of the year and the most wicked sound track i've heard.Loved it.

Its history and a reminder of how people talked and were treated back in the day and how far we've hopefully come as human beings.

I saw this movie last night, and it was very graphic; one's first opinion would be too much cruelty and bloodshed. However, when reality sets in it dawns on you that this is what it was like in the days of slavery. The task masters lived high on the hog, had no compassion for Blacks and treated them as though they were not human. If there was a Black woman that old master or big daddy wanted, she was his regardless to what anyone else might have to say about it, including their wives. I didn't see anything about the writing of the movie as being disrespectful, it was merely telling it like it was. There's a lot of things that occured back in the slavery days that many are not aware of, and the only way to be informed is by seeing things in the movies and reading books that are based on truth. Many of the babies that were born looked White and was raised White. Many of the slaves were passive, and many were not. Many constantly tried to run away, and many didn't, whether Spike Lee likes it or not, this movie protrays what slavery was about. Everytime Tyler Perry, or anyone makes a movie pertaining to Blacks, Spike always has something negative to say. I'm older than spike, and my mother is 94, her father had blue eyes, fair skin and silky hair, I wonder how Spike would...

Quentin Tarantino laid it out, and Samuel L. Jackson played the house N - to a T. Like I said it was graphic, especially when it showed the man being devoured by dogs. Blacks have come a long, long way, and so has the majority of the White race, there's still those who are vindictive, prejudice and mean, thank God for the majority of good hearts.

A movie so controversial that the left and Hollywood are pretending that it doesn't exist.

In spite of the MILLIONS more that it made than any other documentary, it's not up for an Oscar.

I think that since the Hobbit was a 327 page book, it should be made into just one movie or at the most two movie parts.

I picked this because the director is in prison for a crime he DID NOT commit!! Since when is or can an AMERICAN be imprisioned for freedom of speech...Obama is acting unconstitutionally by putting this man in prison for telling the TRUTH !!! Then the dumbass in office apologizes to the terrorists who attack and kill Americans because they don't like the film!! Django is second..racist film with racist actors, a will no longer watch Jamie Foxx movies, really, bragging as if its cool that he get to kill all the white men!!! Racist!!!

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a 55-year-old Coptic Christian and onetime gas station owner, was placed in federal custody by U.S. Central District Chief Magistrate Judge Suzanne Segal over eight alleged probation violations stemming from his 2010 check fraud conviction.. Facts are terrible things to get in the way of hate.

Your the idiot and hypocrite...this site asked opinions!!! And did you watch the testimony of Hitlery on Benghazi?? They even said...the film maker is in prison, and why? Oh, yeah for making a movie...that's freedom of speech!! This is America if you forgot!!! Maybe you are the one who needs to check your information...because you are seriously uninformed!!As for the movie...DJango...why the hell is it ok for a white man to pay a black man to be called N***r, but no one can say it otherwise? And did you ever think that maybe the racist is the one who says its cool that he get to kill all the white men?? Or for someone to always be using the N word in his movies? And if you didn't know, the KKK wasn't formed till after the war was won and democrats lost the ability to keep slaves, there next move was to oppress by forming KKK!!! They show KKK in this film, serous lay historically inaccurate!!!
