"Django Unchained," the latest film from visionary director Quentin Tarantino, has been delighting critics and audiences all over the country. However, some are not so happy with it. Director Spike Lee called it's depiction of slavery "disrespectful," and Slate described it as having a feeling of "vague moral unease."

Does this make it the most controversial film of 2012? Another big movie of the holiday season, "Zero Dark Thirty," came under fire for its depiction of torture, while "Cloud Atlas" was accused of containing "badly done yellowface" by the Media Network for Asian Americans thanks to its casting of white actors as Korean characters.

Other films were controversial because of Twitter beef. Samuel L. Jackson personally attached New York Times critic A.O. Scott on Twitter because of his review of "The Avengers" — which wasn't even very negative. And Kim Novak, who played the lead in "Vertigo," described the use of parts of that film's score in "The Artist" as "rape."

There were other, smaller controversial films. "2016: Obama's America" was the most successful documentary of 2012, but attitudes toward it changed after details emerged about the director's private life. And "The Innocence of Muslims" sparked outrage for depicting the prophet Mohammad (as well as being awful).

And then there's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Many fans were incensed when they found out that the short book was to be made into three 180-minute movies.

Take a look at the slideshow and tell us: Which do you think was the year's most controversial movie?

Ben Mankiewicz said it best "2016 is another reminder of how many people in this country find Obama so shockingly unlikesome that they are seemingly ready to believe the most nonsensical theories about him."

On the other hand Tarrentino is the Rizzas mentor! Spike just doesn't know what a good movie looks like.

I think Spike really mad that he didn't think of it first. Tarantino probably was the best man to make this kind of film. I haven seen it yet. But I bet it sort of feel like his hit Pulp Fiction.

I couldn't figure it out either. Maybe because Hulk's pants don't fit? Cap believes in God? A black man was in charge of the nation's top security agency? Wait, I remember now, this one is not a joke. Thor made fun of orphans. This is legit, he made that joke about Loki being adopted and the...Justice League of Orphans, (Not what they're really called, I can't think of the name though) got mad. I'd link you, but I'm on my phone and if I can do that I haven't figured it out.

The national adoption something or other. They got ticked because of the adopted joke Thor tells when Black Widow tells him how many people Loki killed.

I frankly refuse to choose Django Unchained for anything, even when it's relevant bc I dislike the movie and the premise that much. So, I chose the second option. I'm getting really tired of the crap coming out of hollywood lately.

I wonder what would have happened if A Clockwork Orange had been released in this era of "everything offends me". I dare to say there would pandemonium in the streets. Get a life folks. Preferably your own.

Would they even understand it's a sci fi story like Soylent Green, about a dystopic future that never was, or will be ?

Did 1000 people even watch the Innocence of Muslims video? I'm looking forward to seeing Django. Leave it to Spike Lee to criticize something he hasn't even watched. Has he done anything good since He Got Game? Go away, Spike Lee.

It was either this, or the "Innocence of Muslims." The hoopla surrounding the other movies is hardly what I'd call "controversial."

Either this one or "Innocence of Muslims", because anything that attacks a politician or religious faith is going to spark outrage, they were made to be controversial.

The "scandal" involving the director of this film isn't even that bad, but I guess in the Christian world it would be...

no, LIES sparked violence and death of people. THERE IS A VERY BIG AND TERRIBLE DIFFERENCE. Was that not the documentary blamed for the supposed riots that killed 4 people in the Syrian Embassy? The US government lied about what happened from the beginning, they knew what happened and thought we were ignorant enough to believe the story.

I know they weren't killed because of a poorly made video, because the Obama administration admitted to having "false information". Basically, they lied and they didn't want to take responsibility for the consequences of that lie. Not that I'm surprised, just mad that people continue to allow them to lie
