Diddy 'Idol' Rumors Fly: Would He Make a Good Judge on the Show?

According to the New York Post, Sean “Diddy” Combs is being considered as a new judge on “American Idol” to fill one of the holes created by the departure of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. While other names like Nick Jonas and Pharrell Williams are also being tossed around, the Post wrote that Fox producers have reached out to the rap superstar to join the panel.

puff daddy

Diddy is certainly a monster in the music industry in his own right. The three-time Grammy-winning performer has released three multi-platinum albums including his debut “No Way Out” in 1997. He also founded Bad Boy Records, which since 1993 has featured artists like Notorious B.I.G., Faith Evans, Cassie and Janelle Monáe.

Plus, if all that isn’t enough, he has produced a long list of stars including Mary J.Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Limp Bizkit, Britney Spears and Jay-Z. Clearly his credentials in the music business stack up.

But Diddy also has another leg up over other potential judges: “Making The Band.” From 2002 to 2009 he went on the search to form the best hip-hop acts, boy bands and girl groups. The show churned out four somewhat-successful acts before ending its run. Clearly, this proves Diddy’s experience spotting vocal talent. Still some may think he leans too much towards hip hop and rap for the reality show's taste. What do you think: Would Diddy be a good “Idol” judge?

If u think he's a douche or douchebag then u need to take another at those definitions cuz he is not either of them. People think that just because he changed his stage name three or four times he's a crazy wacko. Diddy has a successful experienced career in music and would be perfect for the job.

Don't worry, he changes it frequently. We've seen black, we've seen blue, we've seen black with silver, we've seen it long, we've seen it short. It's a part of the canvas on which he designs himself. Quite interesting. He's a fascinating man.

I think they need someone on there that will tell them how it is ... sometimes things get sugar coated and these poor people get their hopes up!! Diddy would be pretty upfront, I believe.

Watched his show before and I think he just drove those women dancers relentlessly with excessive hypercritical comments. How many times can a group of women work their hardest over and over. Admittedly, I am not a dancer and I don't mind watching the female figure in such a graceful art form as dance, but I won't condone driving them to exhaustion of bleeding blisters for amusement. Wasn't he once know as P Diddy? For as much as I disliked what I saw of his show, I won't suggested a better spelling!

Is there anyone else with as much of an eye for talent as him, on that panel? No. So, yes... he's more than qualified.

just look at his record company...or is there one in existence? All of his artists are either in Jail, Dead, or on crack/drugs. One even murdered somebody. He has a penchant for recruiting actual criminals, so his judgement could be iffy.

Sure, of coure, absoultely, why not. After 8 to 10 seasons of slipping ratings and changing judges like changing underwear and paying Seacrest $15M a season why not make Porky Pig or Elmer Fudd a judge or both at the same time? Seems to me to be the next logical step.

i think it would be good to have a different musical perspective on AI. I mean they had pop singer jennifer lopez, rock singer steven tyler, natrually the next best thing to do would be to get feedback from a hip hop perspective. he's been in the industry long enough and he's allready been a part of the musical talent judge thing. I mean with making the band he mad 3 (well, more like 2) successful bands (ok, fine basically danity kane was the only REALLY successful one), so he obviously has a good ear for vocal talent. AND ontop of that, he's kinda a dick in the term that if he doesn't like u, he'll say so. he's got an opinion he's not afraid 2 share, which is good, and i think that's another main reason he's potentially gonna get chosen. i think diddy is a good choice for the show.

I agree. If Diddy woulsn't make a good judge on Idol, then what would the point of this whole thing be? There would be none.
