Business mogul and "Apprentice" host Donald Trump was denied an offer to purchase the real estate near Ground Zero where the controversial mosque is set to be built. Trump explained on "Larry King Live" that he offered 25 percent more than the owners paid, but was told that the property would be worth more down the line.
"I called [the owner of the land] and he started bragging to me about what a great deal he made," Trump told King. "I said, 'Well, why don't you sell it, I'll give you your money back ... I'll give you a 25 percent increase, I'll pay your costs, I'll pay everything, and we'll end this whole fiasco.' And he said, 'No, no, no, I wouldn't do that. This is worth $18 million or $20 million.'"
When Trump made the offer last week, CNN reported that the land owners' lawyer called Trump's offer a "pathetic" publicity stunt.
Trump wrote a public letter concerning the offer, stating, "I am making this offer as a resident of New York and citizen of the United States, not because I think the location is a spectacular one (because it is not), but because it will end a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation that is destined, in my opinion, to only get worse."

I do feel that these people have every right to build their islamic center without protest or harrassment. There was a prayer room (which I guess you can call a mosque - I tend to think of them as large, ornate, free standing buildings) IN the world trade center. Muslims died in the two towers along with people of many other faiths and of no faith. I find this vehemence against their wish to build a center and mosque near ground zero to be unamerican.
