You've probably seen those commercials showing someone texting while driving before getting into a serious car accident. For Dr. Frank Ryan, the plastic surgeon who transformed Heidi Montag, that might be exactly how it happened.

Police are investigating Ryan's death after he swerved off California's Pacific Coast Highway and over a cliff. They're specifically investigating whether or not Twitter or texting could have been the cause.

Ryan's ex-girlfriend seems to know the answer already. She told People magazine that he was "texting while driving and he accidentally went over the cliff." She got that information from one of Ryan's "celebrity friends," according to the L.A. Times.

Ryan had posted a picture of his dog to Twitter about 20 minutes before going over the cliff, but no other information has been released about why friends and police think he was texting or Tweeting at the time of the accident.

The L.A. Times reports that California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Reid, who is involved in the case, said, “We’re looking into that along with many other factors."

Could be; might have been. . .an oncoming car was out of it's place on highway and he made a reflexive/defensive response. Whatever; what a horrible and unnecessary ending of life here.

But honestly, they need stricter laws against texting and driving. And as an adult, and knowing full well the consequences, this really surprises me. I think there's more to this story that we may never know.

I have no idea, and if he died because he was texting, I feel no remorse for him, because I feel no remorse when people die for doing something dumb. If it was not due to texting, but something that was actually serious, then I guess I could give my condolences, as long as he did some worthwhile surgery in his lifetime. Yes, there is some worthwhile plastic surgery out there.

I think it shows that all of us are susceptible to the urge to answer those seductive chimes and buzzes when we get an incoming text - even if its while we are operating a 5,000 pound piece of steel and glass.

I hope Ms. Montag uses this tragedy as an opportunity to speak out against texting and driving. With her popularity she could save lives on our highways with just one simple announcement. 6,000 deaths a year to text and drive...can we all say "no more!"

I think this guy should be revered as a role model. All people who text while driving should drive off a cliff instead of taking out other innocent people with them.

Apparently, it's so much more important to tweet about your dog than watch where you're going when you're driving. But, he could have taken a few innocent lives, too. I guess it's true you have to watch out for the other guy.

I hope people see the wrong he did and realize how stupid it is to text while driving.

It very well could be. It's sad that it had to happen, but people really need to be careful when they drive. They can kill somebody texting and driving as sure as drinking and driving can.
