Did Lana Del Rey Redeem Herself on 'Letterman'?

After her underwhelming performance on “Saturday Night Live,” we asked SodaHeads what they thought about Lana Del Rey. 55% voted her “talentless,” but did she redeem herself on “The Late Show with David Letterman”?

Though it’s true that she really had nowhere to go but up, responses to the Internet sensation’s latest performance of her song “Video Games” have been far more favorable.

Rolling Stone’s Matthew Perpetua wrote, “Her body language is still fairly stiff, but this time around, her performance was staged in a way that made her stillness seem deliberate and sort of unnerving. She comes off as understandably self-conscious in her singing, but delivers a much more controlled and dramatic performance than on SNL.”

TIME still places her in the “guilty pleasure realm” but others feel that the singer has redeemed herself, proving once and for all that her disastrous performance on “SNL” can be chalked up to nerves and inexperience.

What do you think? Did Lana Del Rey redeem herself on “Letterman”?

She is so beautiful like Julia Roberts!!! The lyrics are unusual and the melody . I like it she is different and she is supposed to sound lovelorn I think. Hence her tone and body language. At least she looks lady like and elegant. Which is more than I can say for that lady gaga and nick Minaj. They always like naked and slutty

She has a voice, but I think she should take elocution classes to calm down her nervousness on stage (In all the performances I've seen her in, she always looks very nervous). I don't hate it like I did her SNL performance, but I don't think she completely redeemed herself either.

I suppose she did. This performance was better but it was also a different song. She can sing, she's just a deer in headlights and the quality sometimes suffers because of that. I like her music, or at least I like this song. I bet she'll sound great once she gets over some of that stage fright.

I really love this song but her performance is a little on the dull side... She kind of looks like a blonde Julia Roberts

She is new and inexperienced. And has the depth in her voice to improve. This type of song generally appeals to an older audience. And Letterman does have older viewers.

Honestly, I didn't see the Letterman performance yet, but after the SNL bit I checked out her music and I actually kind of dig it. She's not just another cookie cutter pop-princess.

I like her voice. It's different...sultry. Kind of like Adele. It's different, and that's what I like about it...it isn't that same generic upbeat pop crap that sounds all the same.

At least this time my initial reaction wasn't: "WHAT THE?!"
I could recognize this as singing and an attempt at a performance but I still don't love it.

Although I think she should try singing much louder, and use her throat more. She most certainty isn't bad. I find her voice to be rather lovely.

Barely have the strength to comment on this. She is the daughter of a very powerful media mogul who has bought his daughter a singing career. She is very pretty like her mother and sings about as well as one might minimally expect if you grew up in the industry, had singing lessons from the top singing instructors in LA since you were 6 years old and your Dad got you about 1.5 million dollars worth of Studio Engineering, top songwriters and musicians (plus marketing, fashion design, image consultants etc) plus some massive 'pull' and influence.
And we need another perfectly average singer to get to know and learn about?

Her music is poorly produced. It is minimalistic to the point of being boring.

She sounds like, I dunno, Lady Gaga on Quaaludes recording demos on a Walkman.

I still don't think she needed to be "redeemed" in the first place. She sounds the same as on SNL, and for me, that means she sounds amazing. I love her voice.

Didn't see it. Not interested. Lana Del Rey, admittedly, has a lovely tone to her voice that I could... I suppose, dig, were it not for the fact that she is just the most recent of overly-marketed, overly-inflated pawns of the industry. I just don't get the hype or the criticism, quite frankly.

I love her music and I understand that not every singer or band is good live. I just bought her album and I bet I'll adore it. That is all that matters to me. Don't know why people are making it such a huge deal. Ke$ha sucks live without autotune, but no one had a big uproar about it.
