Did Katie Couric cross the line by asking this question?

Katie Couric went there. During her televised interview with Manti Te'o over the infamous girlfriend hoax, she asked whether the All-American linebacker from Notre Dame was gay.

"Are you gay?” Couric asked during the interview that was televised Thursday on her nationally syndicated television show. ”No, far from it, far from it,” Te'o replied with an undertone of nervous laughter.

Te'o, who led Notre Dame to the BCS national championship game and was the runner-up in voting for the Heisman Trophy as college football's best player, was duped into believing he had a loving online relationship with a girl named Lennay Kekua. But Kekua wasn't real, a concoction reportedly of Ronaiah Tuiasosopo's creation.

If she asked me that question, I'd say, "No, I am not. How many executives did you have to sleep with to get to where you are?"

I think so, what would that matter to anyone.
That is just being real nosy!
I don`t think she would like it if he asked her if she was.
I mean , she may as well have asked him if he had sex before doing the interview.
    Geez! what does it matter?
    What a stupid question.

Would she like it if the shoe was on the other foot? It's none of her business and she did it only for ratings. She's a media whore for that reason--selling her dignity for numbers. My answer to her would be NOYB!

Other than trying to up her ratings, I have no idea why she would ask that. What he should have asked her how many men have you sleeped with since he husband died.

SALACIOUS, it has as much to do with serious journalism as the average National Enquirer headline story has to hard news. The country has an unhealthy and voyeuristic fixation with people's sexuality, especially people in the public eye.

Normally I would not suggest this is something to ask someone .. but open his public life to world and lied about things to get sympathy points around award season. So why should he not be questioned?

Never said he didn't have that right. I still think the young man might have been embarrassed by the question. I assume she interviewed about the fake girlfriend thing and IF that is the case what difference does it make. In fact I don't see what in hell all the interest is in this fake girlfriend anyway. I still say, WHAT THE HELL DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE AND IT'S NO ONE ELSE'S BUSINESS ANY WAY. Unless of course you are a scandal lover

Ok. To some degree you are right. BUT in this case it was a widely held theory as to WHY he would participate in this. Which untill her interview many many people thought he did... Hell I thougth there was NO WAY he could have been fooled until her interview. And I wondered. Does it have any meaning in my life? No. Would his answer have changed my mind about him as a person? No. It was one of the few ways I could have forgiven him (not that MY forgivness matters at all) for the lie if he was lieing or if he had done it.

If you remember, the story about Edwards was broken by whom?? In the case of a sports person it doesnt matter. In the case of a politicain running for office it does.
