Did Judges Rob Manny Pacquaio?

We don't normally cover combat sports here on SodaHead, but there are times when it warrants our attention. Case in point: the big boxing match over the weekend between arguably the best in the world, Manny Pacquiao Vs. contender Timothy Bradley. Much like rival Floyd Mayweather Jr., when "Pacman" fights, everyone watches.

And everyone watched Pacquiao dominate practically the whole fight. While there was a round or two you could give to Bradley, it wasn't like he'd beat the legend in any judges' eyes. How wrong those observers were. Pacquaio lost the fight via split decision, meaning two out of three judges lacked common sense, were blind, or are just completely incompetent.

Whatever the case is with those two judges, Pacquiao lost a fight nearly everyone says he won. People talked about fixing. Many celebrities from Justin Timberlake to 50 Cent called out the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Twitter over the judging. Wikipedia pages were vandalized. Some called it the end of boxing. Bradley first said he'd have to watch the fight to see if he won, and later changed his tune saying he thought he won. Which one is it, dude?

On a humorous note, Pacquaio went missing for awhile before the main event and it turns out, he was still in his street clothes until the end of the Heat-Celtics Game 7. He also needed a treadmill to stretch his calves. And he still ended up dominating. No investigation has been opened on the judging and fans obviously aren't happy. On the bright side, at least Manny Pacquiao's calves were loose! But let's be real: numbers don't lie...

Follow the money. Split decision & it took 2 screwy judges. They both either owed somebody or just opened a large bank account in the Caymans.

decision 2 screwy judges owed opened large bank account caymans

I said no because judging a fight is inherently subjective and, since you don't get the same view from a television set as you get ringside, weird stuff does happen.

I didn't see the fight but a lot of what I read suggests a lot of people, who know fighting, can't figure out what fight the two judges that gave the fight to Bradley were watching.

Going to the judges is ALWAYS iffy and every fighter knows it. The only way to be certain is to knock the guy out.

    You're correct, to a point.

You do have to allow the judges a "margin of error" for the reasons you gave.

But, at a certain point the fight becomes so one sided that you have to question the competency of a judge who rules the other way. At another point, you have to go even further and question their integrity because no one in that position could be so incompetent.

From everything I've heard, this fight went to the last extreme. I didn't see it because I haven't considered boxing a legitimate sport in many years.

They already have a rematch in November. It's all about the money. The fight was fixed like a ton of others have been many times. I wouldn't pay a dime if they were fighting in front of my house.......

At first I thought that Manny won this fight but I must admit that I was fooled. This crowd was 90% Manny supporters so every time Manny landed a punch the crowd would go oooh or aaah. When Bradley landed there was no big fuss. The commentators was also for Manny side. I watched the fight again but with no sound and unbelievably this was a close fight but I would say that Bradley won. Bradley landed more punches then the compubox gave him credit for. Although Manny did land some good shots most of them was overrated because of the crowd cheering. A lot of his punches didn't land flush or not at all but the crowd still cheered. Manny should have fought harder and not laid off most of the fight.

I don't think Manny laid off until the last couple of rounds. And I think the only reason he did that was because he and almost everyone else thought he had this fight won. Which he should have. You could tell by the look on her face throughout the fight that Bradley's wife even knew he was losing. This is a travesty.

Once they showed her and she had to put her head down so that she couldn't watch. Anyways the fight wasn't a blow out as many are saying. I gave the edge to Bradley but it could have gone either way. If you listen to all the oooh's and aah's then Many won, but if you watch it without the sound you can see a different fight.

It sounds like he was robbed his belt. He dominated the whole fight and yet they voted against him. That is why everyone is saying it was rigged.

Yeah, that won't happen. But, boxing is dying a slow death due to lack of interest.

I'm an example. I used to love watching boxing with my late father. Now, I can't be bothered with it, due to crap like this.

I've never heard of a fight being over turned in boxing,so what would am investigation accomplish. Some fights are rigged.Whats in it for Bob Arum (he promotes both fighters)? He probably walked away with more money than either fighter.

8 people watched it with me, including a referee that judges LA fights! All of us, unanimously, know Pacquiao won. One of the group said he'd never watch boxing again, only ultimate fighting now...This erases all doubt that boxing is fixed. It is about the money, and future fight draw...Too bad, the end of a great entertainment sport. Maybe it should end.

I totally believe that the judges may have been paid off. Think about how much money someone would make betting against Pacman. This entire scenario stinks to high hell. I hope Pacman annihilates Bradley in the rematch.

Over-PED-fed hot head boxer vs underpublicized Juggernaut in his own right, perhaps a bit of a Cinderella man vs the politician. I think the chances of Pac-man were statistically in his favor but anything can happen. Rigged? Perhaps, perhaps not...will we ever know? Doubtful.

Probably agreed to by both parties thus setting up a huge rematch for millions of dollars, so both go home pockets loaded. I don't watch boxing anymore, it has lost it's luster since the great ones are no longer in the game.
