DiCaprio to Star in 'The Great Gatsby': Who Should Play Daisy?

Baz Luhrmann of "Moulin Rouge" fame will be directing a new adaptation of Fitzgerald's classic "The Great Gatsby."

Leonardo DiCaprio has already been cast as Jay Gatsby, the mysterious young millionaire bootlegger who falls deeply in love with Daisy Buchanan, but there's been no word on who will be playing his iconic love interest.

Celebuzz claims that DiCaprio and Luhrmann were seen out to dinner with 23-year-old Blake Lively, who we think would be an excellent pick, if a little young to star alongside DiCaprio (though the book does describes Daisy as young).

Other rumored actresses include Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman, who could definitely pull off the old money attitude, but might have a hard time tapping into Daisy's shallower side.

Scarlett Johansson is another actress high up on the list. MTV reports that she actually auditioned for Luhrmann last week and came out pleased with her performance.

If we have a say, we'd certainly give Anne Hathaway a shot at auditioning.

Natalie Portman played Anne Boleyn well, but I don't thnk she'll be able to play an airhead. I think Blake could do it pretty well, but I don't watch gossip girl or the movies she's in.

I didn't like That movie with Leo reuniting with Kate Winslet. Though aesthetically they both looked great in it. I think they should of been in this one together. I know no chance but there's my 2 cents. I don't like any of the actresses mentioned. I like Keira Knightley and Reese Witherspoon but I can't picture either of them with Leo or having great chemistry.

I think Michelle Williams or natalie portman is a better choise for Daisy. Michelle cause she fits the physical looking character of the book. both women can act very well I can't say that about most of the women in this list, excluding Anne Hathaway and maybe keira Knightley (though she still bothers me). Blake Lively is a no talent she sucks.

Yeah she is vain but Daisy is also the ultimate spoiled, fluff filled, inconsiderate, airhead, none of these actresses have ever been able to pull that off. For some reason I keep thinking someone like Sienna Miller would do well.

I'm going to be one of those people who says "NOBODY SHOULD PLAY DAISY, BECAUSE THEY SHOULDN'T REMAKE THE MOVIE!"

Honestly, the original Gatsby movie was perfectly good! It would be one thing if it was a choppy, black and white movie with poor audio quality, but it's only forty years old! And besides, the book is better anyway.

I never said that it did. I said that it was "perfectly good". I've found it best to not judge movies on how well they portray the book, because they're completely different things.

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the BEST actors ever. He is AMAZING in every single role. I thought he was really a special needs child in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I will watch anything and everything he is in, he is exceptional.

No! Don't mess with The Great Gatsby! I love the book and the 1974 film. A remake will just ruin it. And, even though DiCaprio is a great actor he is no Gatsby.

always one of my favorite books. leo's one of my favorite actors too so... you can't go wrong here. i'm going to go with keira. she's my fave of this crew. i'm not a huge fan of scarjo.

Johansson would sort of work when it comes to looks; but Daisy is a flighty little nitwit and I can't see any of those actresses being able to pull that off. 3 are known for strong female characters and Lively...well...who cares about her? The girl can't act. Gossip Girl isn't enough to convince me she can.

I say get a new actress on the screen. I don't think any of the above really match the character of Daisy in my eyes. It would be nice to see someone new. Every time Sodahead has a question of "Who should play...", the female roles considered are always Keira Knightly, Scarlett Johansson, and Anne Hathway.

I am extremely excited for this movie because not only did I love the book, but I've been a fan of Leonardo DiCaprio's roles lately.

i always imagined Daisy as incredibly vain, so I think Keira fits the bill. Although I also imagined her as a blonde, so she needs a bleach job :P
