Dane Cook Jokes About Colorado Shooting: Funny or Foul?

Comedian Dane Cook officially has a sick sense of humor. The 40-year-old comic joked about "The Dark Knight Rises" movie massacre during his stand-up routine last Thursday at Los Angeles' Laugh Factory, The Daily Caller reports -- just a week after the horrific tragedy took place.

"So I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes into the movie. And I don't know if you've seen the movie, but the movie is pretty much a piece of crap. Yeah, spoiler alert. I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like, 'Ugh, (expletive) shoot me,'" Cook said.

The audience reportedly groaned at first, but then laughed and cheered. But others didn't find it very funny, forcing Cook to apologize on Twitter: "I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado & did not mean to make light of what happened. I made a bad judgment call with my material last night & regret making a joke at such a sensitive time. My heart goes out to all of the families & friends of the victims."

And not only did Cook manage to offend the victims, their family and their friends, he also dissed "Batman" fans: "Dark Knight Rises" currently has a 87 percent fresh rating with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and 93 percent of fans liked it.

Gilbert Gottfried joked about 9/11 a week after the fact, that was a little more tragic than Colorado and it was too soon, but people got over it.

“I came out and said, ‘I have to leave early tonight, I have to fly out to L.A. I couldn’t get a direct flight, I have to make a stop at the Empire State Building.' And people were booing, and gasping, and one guy yelled out, ‘Too soon!’
“I thought he meant I took too long between the setup and the punch line.”

The formula is Tragedy + Time = Comedy. He's missing the "time" variable. That's why most people don't flinch at Titanic jokes, but get angry over World Trade Center snarks.

Macabra humor has been around for ages...remember when the Challenger blew up, killing was it 7 astronauts? The sick joke at that time was "What was the color of the Astronauts eyes? ....Blew" (Blue...)At least this guy apologized, altho it didn't sound very sincere....
