I am so tired of hearing how people are terrified of spiders. The contests are always about a persons level of fear.... well Id like to introduce you to jumping spiders... they are CUTE! Their eyesight is awesome.. so good actually they can really see you and its believed they 'talk' to one another via arm gestures.. anyhow here are our contestants!
They are my favorite spider I call them Boris. They are defiant little buggers, when you put your finger near them they don't run and hide but turn left their front legs and stand their ground.
lmao @ Boris,, I dont think of those little jumpers as defiant,, but rather as very intellegent and observant,, their eyesight is as good as OURs and they can 'us' .. the whole us instead of just our finger or just our head.. they seem to know we are 'beings' like themselves. Those are the guys Im talking about too Sheepdog.. I just adore the little stinkers for their smarts.
I had one on my counter one day that looked at me,, raised its front legs as if to scream "Omg its gonna eat me" then dash off behind a flowerpot a few inches away. I stopped in place and kind of leaned to one side to look around and see if it was still there or if it had run off further,,, and the little stinker came around the other side of the pot to look for ME! Lol,, if I had a dozen jumping spiders in my house Id be alright with that,, they are too cool and they dont get in your way... unless you start feeding them.. they seem to have a memory lol.
That’s cool, they are always welcomed in our house too. I know what you mean about feeding them. Many years back I worked at this one place that had a large window right next to my drawing board. Every day one would come out from a little crack in the wall at the bottom and hunt around. One day I caught a fly and put it near that crack and he came out and jumped on it. I told the guys about it and just about every day for months we put a fly there and we all had a kick watching him do his thing. We were easily amused lol.
Same here,, we started feeding one in our kitchen and that little bugger would,, about once a week hang himself from the ceiling down to about face hight so that one of us (me or my daughters both of which are about my height) would almost walk into him! We never actually did thankgod...
Then this winter I was thinking about him wondering where he was,, got up from the computer to get a soda,, and when I sat down there he was sitting right on the desktop directly about/in front of the mouse! He waited for me to go get the little plastic contain we always used and the minute we found and added a house spider he snatched it up,, ate and was content. There are actual incidents from last summer I kid you not where we would 'offer' him the container and he would walk in of his own free will.. Im telling you those little suckers are SMART haha.
ps... we're in an apartment and used to having pets around,, the little jumping spiders have nicely filled in that hole in our hearts haha. Is that creepy? hahaha
I never kill spiders in my house but this past summer I was bitten by one and ended up in the emergency room with a bad allergic reaction. Still don't kill them!
ohhhhhhh poor spider hehe... no that would make me a little jumpy around them.. but I am around regular house spiders or spiders I cant quickly identify anyhow.. but Im thankful you still dont kill them. :0)
I have had a phobia about spiders since I was little. I brought it on myself because I used to do scientific experiments on Daddy Longlegs. I'd pull a leg off at a time to see his reaction. I didn't mean to be mean and all of a sudden it came to me that the little thing most likely had feelings and I had actually been torturing the poor guy. That's when the nightmares started where all the tortured spiders friends were coming after me. It was horrible. When I learned how they could be our friends eating the other bad bugs I developed a respect for them. They are facinating and I did love Charlottes web. So in honor of all those poor Daddy longlegs that I put to death I post this picture of an intact one
Actually just took two days off myself. Felt good. I'm playing scrabble online with my sister who lives in NJ. Nice change. But did find I kinda missed my friends but so many have left makes me sad.
