Is there a Curse of the Joker no i dont think so but there are accounts of people how are obsessed with a person or characture that they become consumed by it. i seen people in mental words jabbering that their the riddler. And yes drugs do enter as a bonus affect, when you add sleeping pills with the Jokers mentality very bad things are bound to happen.

It's possible that he might have been going through some trouble trying to get over how deep he got into his character. There's a video on youtube where it shows Jack Nicholson saying "I warned him" when he found out Heath Ledger died. Kind of weird if you ask me. But on the other hand it could have been for many other reasons too not just the fact that he was way too deep into his character. Although if I would have gotten that deep into the character, say if I played the Joker and did such a good job he did, it would probably haunt me because I know my personality lol.

I myself am an actor and understand how deeply actors must get into their characters to put on a good performance. Now, I obviously can't speak for such great actors as Heath Ledger, as I am not nearly as good, but I can empathise.

    He was a great guy.

Well yeah the part of the Joker was getting to Heath. I think he started having nightmares about him so he started taking pills. um i don't know if i would call it a..curse?..but still the joker was part of the reason he is now..dead.

Not sure he did lock himself away for a month and even had a Joker Diary I personally think that is what all actors should do to get into character eat, shit, and live who your portraying and never get out of character until the movie is done. thats what ledger did and I honestly mean this and not just because he's dead but because he gave the greatest acting performance I've ever seen. don't get me wrong though I think Johnny Depp is great in movies like blow. but the Joker is just such a twisted character and no one can ever top him. Its better to burn out than to fade away.

I think when you got lots of stress on your hands that's basically when the drugs come in. Take as a factor that being an actor/actress is very stressful and most of those people know how to handle and some just don't.

big coincidence that almost all jokers died of self-inflicted incidents, but maybe it's just that. a coincidence.

His death was a tragic accident. If his massage woman, the housekeeper, or that Olsen twin twit had the common sense to call 911 instead of waiting for a body gaurd to get there, he would still be here with us today. When Heath was found he was still alive. Yet there was no one there with the balls to call for help. In a world were Briney, Paris and Lindsy abuse drugs & alcohol on a regular basis, this man who was in need of just some sleep passes. It is unexcuseable

The thing about him being in character doesn't mean he was cursed. If he was so into character he might have been stressed out and needed something to help him relax so he could get some rest.

It wasn't only because of his role of the joker. Everyone knew about his personal problems prior to his death. His role of the joker added to the reasons.

Heath supposedly kept a journal each night as the joker. and if you do something like that for a long amount of time youll start beleiving it and i think thats what happened to him. he started getting nightmares because he was becoming so into the character it was scaring him. I highly doubt he tried to kill himself because with such a buzzed about movie coming out he probably did not want to miss it. It was an accidental overdose caused by prescribed med for his anxiety from the joker character. Its really sad because this is probably his best performance and he is not even alive to see it.

I don't believe the role is really "cursed," as much as the media is playing it up to be. But when you look at the facts, it does seem a little too coincidental.

For instance, when Nicholson played the role in 1989, he took an accidental overdose of the same medication Heath Ledger was taking. Of course he didn't die from it, but it can be assumed that since they were both taking the same medication (sleep aides), they may have both been suffering from night terrors & sleeplessness while filming. Two actors with the same problem, taking the same medication for it, while playing the same role?

But you also have to consider the fact that Ledger was going through a really rough patch when this occurred. His girlfriend left him, & the newspapers were dogging his every step about it. When you factor that in with his demanding role & lack of sleep, well.. If he hadn't died, I'd be willing to bet he'd be in serious need of therapy now.

As for the Joker. It's not a role any actor should get that close to. Nicholson has played plenty of madmen (The Shining, anyone?), so I don't think it affected him quite as much. But for Ledger to choose the Joker as his first villainous role? & to get so into the character as to spend days locked away, trying to find the voice & the mannerisms? It was a poor...'""

It was a poor choice on his part, I believe.

Only if another actor were to die (or, as in Nicholson's case, come close enough to it) while playing the Joker would I be serious in considering the part "cursed."

It's not like it's the reason he died.
There were many, many things that factored into his death.
With his sleeping problems, it is known that this didn't help him.
He got so deep into the role (and because of that, did an amazing job), that it haunted him a little bit.
But, it was NOT the cause of his death

If you heard anything about his death and what it was like for him to play the Joker, then I suppose that yes, this role is what drove him to want to take the sleeping pills to help him sleep. (He was sleeping little and when he did sleep he had nightmares) Again, I wrote this before, his death was caused by a mixture of sleeping meds and pnaumonia meds. (He got pnaumonia while filming "The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus")
